Production Engineer – New Product Integration

Softmatter

MAS Innovation, Colombo, Sri Lanka

Softmatter is the wearable technology company of MAS with a portfolio of patented technologies. By enabling the intersection between textiles and electronics we create products that enhance experiences, function, and everyday interactions. By combining years of expertise with stellar integration techniques, we bring ideas to life by crafting solutions that create new digital and functional experiences.

As a Production Engineer – New Product Integration, you’ll lead the transition of groundbreaking designs from concept to large-scale production. From managing NPI processes and validating manufacturing methods to ensuring compliance and driving operational efficiency, you’ll play a critical role in bringing innovative products to life. If you’re passionate about engineering, problem-solving, and making an impact in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, this is your opportunity to lead and excel.

As a Production Engineer – New Product Integration, you will be required to:

  • Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from prototype to mass production readiness by providing DFM recommendations, evaluating designs for manufacturability, assembly efficiency, quality and cost optimization, and coordinating cross-functional teams to drive successful product industrialization.

  • Drive product transfer and contract manufacturing activities, ensuring successful transition to manufacturing partners.

  • Develop and implement robust manufacturing processes for new products by planning and executing process qualification and validation activities, validating production equipment and machinery during NPI stages, and conducting process capability studies to establish effective process controls.

  • Define and implement quality gates, inspection methods, testing procedures, acceptance criteria, and control plans while ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and company quality requirements, and supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues.

  • Develop work instructions, SOPs, and visual aids; train operators, supervisors, and technicians on approved manufacturing processes; conduct production handover activities to ensure operational readiness; and monitor initial production runs while providing technical support to production teams.

  • Conduct regular process audits to ensure compliance with established standards, identify improvement opportunities and eliminate waste, lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies, and validate process changes to ensure sustained process performance.

  • Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs and improve yield by optimizing production processes, material utilization, labour and machine efficiency, supporting value engineering and cost-down initiatives, and analyzing manufacturing data to drive productivity improvements.

  • Initiate and support the development of manufacturing tools, fixtures, jigs, and automation solutions, collaborate with suppliers and internal teams on tooling qualification and implementation, evaluate automation opportunities to enhance productivity, quality, and safety, and support the commissioning and validation of new manufacturing equipment.

  • Maintain manufacturing process documentation, including SOPs, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Work Instructions, ensure compliance with ISO, customer, and industry standards, and support internal and external audits as required.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Applied Sciences, or a related discipline.

  • 3–7 years of experience in electronics product development, manufacturing engineering, New Product Introduction (NPI), product industrialization, or a related field.

  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and product transfer projects, with hands-on experience in process validation, quality systems, and production support activities.

  • Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), process validation, equipment qualification, PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, Root Cause Analysis, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and process capability analysis.

  • Proficient in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies, tooling, fixture and jig development, automation solutions, manufacturing documentation, and technical training.

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 13485, or equivalent quality management systems, with Six Sigma Green Belt certification considered an advantage. Strong project management and cross-functional leadership experience, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
