JOB SUMMARY

 

The Shop Oiler is responsible for the frontline preventative maintenance and lubrication of asphalt equipment, heavy mobile machinery, and on-highway assets. This role involves cross-functional duties that bridge plant operations and equipment maintenance to ensure maximum production efficiency and safety.

 

As a key member of the maintenance team, the Oiler must embody Martin Marietta’s “Safety First” culture, prioritizing a zero-incident environment while identifying early signs of mechanical wear and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the shop and plant environment.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute daily and scheduled greasing and lubrication of assigned fixed or mobile equipment.
  • Monitor, check, and replenish oil, fuel, coolant, and hydraulic fluid levels in both stationary plant equipment and mobile machinery (loaders, pavers, rollers, dump trucks).
  • Perform routine changes of oil and air filters; clean breathers and lubricate gearboxes and transmissions.
  • Observe automatic lubrication systems and panels, adjusting valves or flow rates to ensure optimal efficiency.
  • Safely operate a front-end loader, skid steer, and water truck to support plant operations and maintain material stockpiles.
  • Drive and operate fuel/lube trucks to provide on-site fueling and service to paving crews and equipment in the field.
  • Support Mechanics and Plant Operators in performing minor mechanical or electrical repairs; assist with component replacement during plant shutdowns or outages.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping in the plant and shop areas, including sweeping, shoveling spilled material, and clearing debris from around conveyors and drive systems.
  • Conduct daily pre- and post-shift inspections on equipment; identify and report safety hazards or mechanical defects immediately.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations regarding spill prevention and the proper disposal of used oils and filters.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records of all lubrication tasks, fuel consumption, and maintenance performed on each piece of equipment.
  • Monitor levels of lubricants, filters, and shop supplies, reporting needs to the supervisor to ensure zero downtime due to lack of materials.
  • Actively participate in the hazard recognition program by documenting near-misses and implementing safety improvements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

 

High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience

Class B CDL with Tanker and Hazmat endorsement

 

Work Experience

 

1+ years of Heavy Equipment/On-Highway Truck Maintenance experience and/or CDL driving in a related field that showcases the desired skills; 3+ years of experience preferred.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

 

Physical Requirements

 

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for plant maintenance and equipment servicing.

Required to bend, stoop, climb, and reach. You must be able to maintain three points of contact when climbing on/off machinery or on ladders.

Strong hand-eye-foot coordination is essential for operating hand/foot controls. You must have good depth perception with or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet.

 

Working Conditions

 

All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.

Must supply own working set of mechanical tools (check with local shop for specific details).

 

Union

 

We are excited to share the base hourly rate for this position is $35.51+. Membership with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union No, 9andnbsp;is required upon hire. Condition and terms of employment and benefits are in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
