JOB SUMMARY
The Asphalt Weighmaster is responsible for the accurate weighing, ticketing, and documentation of all customer and internal vehicles entering and exiting the asphalt plant. Acting as the primary point of contact for drivers and customers, the Weighmaster ensures that all outbound loads comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company quality standards. This role requires a balance of technical proficiency in scale software, strong administrative skills, and a 'safety-first' mindset in a fast-paced, industrial environment.
Beyond the scale house, you provide essential customer service and communicate effectively with plant operators and drivers to ensure a seamless loading process.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate automated truck scales and specialized software to capture tare and gross weights for asphalt and aggregate products.
- Accurately enter customer data, product codes, and haulage information into the ticketing system to produce official proof-of-purchase documents.
- Ensure all outbound trucks comply with state-specific legal weight limits (e.g., CDOT/DOT rules) to prevent overloads and potential legal infractions.
- Coordinate with plant operators to ensure the correct mix and tonnage are loaded according to the specific customer order.
- Direct incoming and outgoing truck traffic to the appropriate loading areas, ensuring a smooth and safe flow of vehicles throughout the yard.
- Act as the central communication hub between the scale house, asphalt plant Foremen, Loaders, and Dispatch teams via CB radio and telephone.
- Coordinate with Loader Operators to ensure trucks are loaded with the correct material and to report any loading discrepancies.
- Answer customer inquiries regarding product availability, pricing, and scheduling; process cash and credit sales with high accuracy.
- Research and resolve ticket discrepancies or customer complaints promptly, documenting findings for management review.
- Administer site-specific safety training and orientation for all visitors, vendors, and new drivers to ensure compliance with Martin Marietta’s safety protocols.
- Maintain meticulous daily, weekly, and monthly records of tonnage, sales activity, and inventory reconciliation.
- Maintain a clean and professional, scale house environment; perform routine checks on scale equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Assist in tracking inventory levels by monitoring the volume of specific materials leaving the site.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience.
Work Experience
1–2 years in an asphalt or construction-related environment is highly preferred. Familiarity with heavy equipment or trucking operations is a significant plus.
Familiarity with scale operations is preferred.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Physical Requirements
You must be able to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods to manage high-volume truck traffic.
You are required to walk across steep, rough, or uneven terrain. You must also be able to climb stairs (to access scale houses or inspect equipment).
The position requires the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
You will also need to bend, stand, and crouch frequently to manage files, paperwork, and housekeeping.
Travel
On-site, must be willing to travel between different plant locations.
Working Conditions
All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.

The hiring range for this position is $25 -$30 exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary). The offered base compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The hiring range for this role represents the base compensation we expect to pay for the position at time of hire and does not represent the total possible base pay of the position.
