Maintenance Supervisor
About this role
The Maintenance Supervisor leads daily maintenance activities to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable work execution. This role supervises technicians, coordinates work priorities, oversees maintenance activities, and ensures accurate documentation. The position supports equipment reliability, reduces downtime, improves efficiency, and works closely with Operations and other departments to address equipment needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety
- Support the development of a strong safety culture through daily leadership, accountability, and employee engagement.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices by ensuring maintenance work is executed in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Daily Leadership & Work Management
- Review the ready-to-schedule maintenance backlog and develop weekly maintenance schedules that align work priorities with available resources and equipment availability.
- Review maintenance priorities and communicate the daily schedule to maintenance technicians.
- Oversee work execution to ensure maintenance activities are performed safely, efficiently, and to established quality standards.
- Verify that technicians properly document work performed, parts and materials used, equipment conditions, and follow-up requirements.
- Ensure accurate completion and coding of all maintenance work orders in CMMS.
- Update the Weekly Schedule Report to accurately reflect daily work completion, carryover work, and changes in priorities.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Support implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Promote effective utilization of maintenance resources while minimizing equipment downtime and maintenance costs.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance processes, and technician efficiency.
- Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective-action activities when appropriate.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of maintenance processes, procedures, and standards while communicating recurring equipment failures and chronic maintenance issues to the Maintenance Manager.
Emergency Response
- Ensure emergency work is prioritized appropriately while maintaining focus on scheduled maintenance activities.
- Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns and provide direction to maintenance personnel during troubleshooting and repair activities.
- Identify potential extended downtime and promptly escalate concerns to the Maintenance Manager.
- Communicate emergency work status and completion to Operations.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND TRAINING:
- Strong mechanical and industrial maintenance knowledge.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Strong understanding of industrial safety practices and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment documentation, maintenance procedures, and technical information.
- Experience with preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
- Experience with maintenance scheduling and work management.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and effectively prioritize maintenance activities.
- Microsoft Office experience including working with productivity software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project
- Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years of direct leadership experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- 5+ years of direct maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
