JOB SUMMARY
The Electrician performs essential electrical installations, maintenance, and repair functions to support and optimize plant and mining operations. This position collaborates with team members, contractors, and plant leadership to uphold safety and operational excellence in compliance with all relevant codes and protocols.
Responsibilities include coordinating electrical repairs and upgrades for plant controls, troubleshooting AC/DC motor controls and drives, and collaborating with engineering teams and contractors to complete capital and automation projects. This role researches potential system improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability across quarry and plant operations while supporting a strong safety culture and MSHA compliance.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspects electrical equipment, wiring, fixtures, and components to ensure functionality, compliance, and safety.
- Determines the reasons for any malfunctions of systems or components and creates a maintenance or repair plan to solve the problem.
- Repairs electrical systems, wiring, circuit breakers, equipment, and other components so that they remain at fully functioning capacity with a moderate degree of supervision.
- Work requires the ability to perform tasks while lying on your back for prolonged periods and in cramped quarters.
- Tests systems with devices such as voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and ohmmeters to ensure the system remains safe and components are compatible.
- Reviews blueprints and diagrams to understand wiring layout and system design to perform accurate maintenance and repairs.
- Keeps records of all maintenance and repair work conducted, including supplies ordered and used.
- Ensures all routine maintenance work is handled on a regular schedule to reduce the risk of complex issues and minimize downtime.
- Participates in electrical field projects as needed.
- Coordinates in-house electrical repairs and upgrades, including work related to plant automation and process control systems.
- Troubleshoots and repairs AC/DC motor controls, drives, and related electrical systems.
- Researches and recommends automation improvements and technology upgrades to improve plant capacity, consistency, and performance.
- Collaborates with engineering and external vendors to support electrical system projects and meet capital improvement deadlines.
- Promotes and models adherence to safety policies, Guardian Angel initiatives, and MSHA compliance.
- Leads by example in safety practices and ensures others follow established procedures.
- In addition to the primary responsibilities outlined, the successful candidate may be expected to take on other tasks and assignments as required, including but not limited to duties outside the typical scope of the role to support overall team operations and organizational needs. Flexibility and adaptability to evolving job demands are essential.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Vocational training or equivalent experience
Work Experience
- No prior experience is required; 6 months – 1 year of related experience is preferred.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for plant maintenance and equipment servicing.
- Required to bend, stoop, climb, and reach. You must be able to maintain three points of contact when climbing on/off machinery or on ladders.
- Strong hand-eye-foot coordination is essential for operating hand/foot controls. You must have good depth perception with or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet.
Working Conditions
- All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.
COMPENSATION
The hiring range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00 exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary). The offered base compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The hiring range for this role represents the base compensation we expect to pay for the position at time of hire and does not represent the total possible base pay of the position.
