Volunteer Companion - Fife

Fife · On-site

About this role

Looking for a meaningful way to make a difference for someone who is approaching end of life?

Become a Companion Volunteer and offer the one thing that matters most — your presence.

Whether it’s sharing stories, chatting about life, playing some music or sitting beside someone, your time can bring warmth, comfort and connection to someone who truly needs it. Sometimes, just being there is everything.

As a Companion Volunteer, you’ll provide emotional support and conversation, help people express what matters most to them, share helpful information. You may also support family members or carers, both before and after bereavement.

You’ll receive full training and ongoing support from the Marie Curie team, and you’ll be joining a community that cares as deeply as you do. We’ll never ask you to do anything you’re not comfortable with.

Where you’ll be making a difference:

We’re currently welcoming companion volunteers across Fife locations either as a regular visitor in a person’s home, care home or in hospital.

Volunteers are particularly needed in:

  • Dunfermline
  • Glenrothes
  • Kirkcaldy

You’d be a great fit if you’re:

  • A good listener with a kind, open heart
  • Non-judgemental and friendly
  • Emotionally steady in sensitive moments
  • Able to give around three to four hours a week
  • Comfortable using email and completing a short visit report

In return, you’ll gain:

  • A deep sense of purpose and human connection
  • Ongoing training and guidance
  • A warm and welcoming volunteer community
  • Recognition and appreciation for your time
  • Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses each month
  • The chance to make a lasting difference in someone’s life

Ready to take the next step?

You’ll need to be 18 or older, complete a short online application, and provide two non-family references.

Want to chat first?

There’s no pressure to apply. If you’d like to talk through the role or ask questions, we’re here for you with honest answers and a warm welcome.
