Irrigation Technician

Position Summary

The Irrigation Crew Lead is responsible for overseeing and participating in the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and commercial irrigation systems. This position leads a crew in daily operations, ensures quality workmanship, maintains safety standards, and promotes efficiency and productivity on all job sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead irrigation crew members on daily job assignments
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation systems, including controllers, valves, sprinkler heads, drip systems, and pumps
  • Read and interpret irrigation plans and blueprints
  • Ensure proper system programming and water management practices
  • Perform seasonal services such as system start-ups, winterizations, and inspections
  • Train and mentor crew members on proper installation techniques and safety procedures
  • Monitor job progress to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
  • Maintain accurate job records, material usage, and daily reports
  • Communicate effectively with management, clients, and team members
  • Enforce company safety policies and ensure proper use of PPE
  • Operate company vehicles, trailers, and equipment safely

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of irrigation installation and repair experience
  • Previous crew leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, components, and troubleshooting techniques
  • Ability to read blueprints and irrigation layouts
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to operate trenchers, pipe pullers, and other equipment
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and digging
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, and wet conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry irrigation materials and equipment

Work Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • Overtime and weekend work may be required during peak season
