Job Overview

The Hardscape Installation Technician focuses on the expert installation of boulders, stone features, and retaining walls. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working with natural stone, block wall systems, grade changes, and demonstrates a strong understanding of structural integrity and design aesthetics of outdoor spaces.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Construct boulder walls, natural stone features, and manufactured block retaining walls according to design plans and safety standards

  • Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and layout designs for hardscape projects

  • Operate skid steers, excavators, compactors, and other machinery relevant to grading and stone installation

  • Ensure proper base preparation, drainage, and structural stability of all stonework

  • Collaborate with project managers and team members to ensure timelines, quality standards, and client expectations are met

  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment and comply with company safety policies

  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in hardscape installation, with emphasis on boulder work and retaining wall systems (e.g., Versa-Lok, Belgard, Unilock)

  • Strong knowledge of drainage systems, base materials, and construction best practices

  • Ability to work independently and lead small crews on-site when needed

  • Proficient in the use of compact equipment and hand tools required for hardscape construction

  • Physical ability to perform heavy lifting, bending, and standing for long periods in outdoor conditions

  • Strong communication and organization skills

  • Reliable attendance and ability to work long days as project schedules require

  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions, including heat and humidity

  • Possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s License. A CDL with class C endorsement, preferred

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification
