Job purpose
The Senior Specialist, Exploration Licensing will lead and manage the strategic and operational aspects of exploration licensing and tenement management, ensuring full compliance with regulatory frameworks and alignment with corporate exploration objectives. The Senior Specialist will act as a key advisor on licensing matters, drive process improvements, and foster strong relationships with regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities
- Oversee the end-to-end process of exploration license applications, renewals, and compliance reporting.
- Ensure adherence to national and regional mining laws, environmental regulations, and internal governance standards.
- Maintain and update tenement databases, tracking obligations, expiry dates, and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with exploration, legal, and environmental teams to align licensing activities with operational plans.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with government agencies and regulatory bodies.
- Lead internal audits and support external inspections related to tenement compliance.
- Develop and implement process improvements and digital solutions for licensing workflows.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to knowledge sharing across the licensing function.
Minimum Qualification, Experience and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Mining Engineering, Environmental Science, Law, or a related field.
Minimum Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in exploration licensing or tenement management, with at least 2 years in a senior or advisory role within the mining or energy sector.
