Job Summary:

Experienced and detail-oriented Boot Manufacturing Specialist with knowledge of welt stitching processes and footwear production. Skilled in assembling high-quality boots, operating stitching machinery, inspecting materials, and ensuring precise construction according to company standards. Experienced in working with leather, soles, and footwear components while maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and product quality.

Responsible for performing welt stitching operations, troubleshooting equipment issues, following safety procedures, and collaborating with production teams to meet daily manufacturing goals. Committed to producing durable, well-crafted footwear through strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and quality control.

 

Scope of job: 

Responsible for performing welt stitching operations in the production of high-quality footwear. The role involves assembling boot components by accurately attaching the upper, welt, and sole using specialized stitching equipment while maintaining company standards for durability, appearance, and craftsmanship.

Key responsibilities include preparing materials, operating and adjusting welt stitch machines, aligning boot components, inspecting finished stitching for quality, and identifying defects or production issues. The position requires attention to detail, knowledge of footwear construction methods, and the ability to follow production specifications, safety procedures, and quality control guidelines.

The job supports efficient manufacturing operations by ensuring consistent production output, maintaining equipment performance, minimizing material waste, and contributing to the delivery of durable, professionally crafted boots.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform welt stitching operations to assemble boot components according to production specifications and quality standards.
  • Operate and monitor welt stitch machinery to ensure accurate stitching, proper alignment, and consistent product quality.
  • Prepare and position boot uppers, welts, and soles for precise assembly and secure attachment.
  • Inspect stitched components for defects, uneven stitching, alignment issues, and overall workmanship.
  • Adjust machine settings, replace needles, and perform basic equipment checks to maintain efficient production.
  • Follow established footwear construction procedures, safety guidelines, and manufacturing standards.
  • Maintain accurate production output while meeting daily quality and efficiency targets.
  • Identify and report material defects, machine issues, or production concerns to supervisors.
  • Ensure proper handling of leather, soles, threads, and other footwear materials to prevent damage or waste.
  • Ensure operator training is completed and sustained for all bootmakers and operators as needed.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of work areas and equipment to support safe and organized operations.
  • Collaborate with production team members to meet manufacturing schedules and continuous improvement goals.
  • Maintain a strong focus on craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the production of durable, high-quality boots.
  • Provide praise and recognition for jobs well done and provide support for areas needing improvement.
  • Generate ideas to improve efficiency on the lines or relevant topics.
  • Communicate clearly with the team about what is expected and monitor performance and address deficiencies through coaching and positive motivation and/or formal disciplinary action, if required.
  • Reinforcing all company policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and safety rules and procedures. Advise management of discrepancies.
  • Develop and maintain a strong teamwork environment.
  • Assist in other areas of production as needed when directed by management.

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Proficient in welt stitching techniques and footwear manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to operate, adjust, and maintain welt stitch machines and related production equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of boot construction, including uppers, welts, midsoles, outsoles, and leather materials.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for precision stitching and assembly.
  • Ability to read and follow production specifications, work instructions, and quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate stitching, alignment, and product consistency.
  • Ability to identify and correct stitching defects, material flaws, and assembly issues.
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures and continuous improvement practices in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to meet production quotas while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and product quality.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot minor machine and production issues.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, and safely handle footwear materials and equipment.

Education, Experience, and/or Certifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2-3 years of experience leading a team in a production environment.
  • Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) or equivalent workplace safety certification.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification (preferred).
  • 5S Workplace Organization and Visual Management Training.

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to stand and work at a production workstation for extended periods during scheduled shifts.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements required for operating welt stitch machinery and assembling footwear components.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform precise stitching, alignment, and inspection tasks.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials, equipment, and finished products weighing up to 50 pounds, as required.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, and move throughout the production area safely and efficiently.
  • Sufficient visual acuity to inspect stitching quality, identify defects, and ensure accurate alignment of boot components.
  • Ability to safely operate manufacturing equipment while complying with all workplace safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, moving equipment, varying temperatures, noise, dust, and other conditions typical of an industrial setting while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance and work the scheduled hours necessary to meet business and operational requirements.

 

Safety and Compliance: 

  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local occupational safety regulations.
  • Lead by example in promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and hazard awareness throughout the production team.
  • Ensure team members consistently use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices.
  • Conduct routine safety observations, workplace inspections, and housekeeping activities to identify and address potential hazards.
  • immediately report, investigate, and document workplace injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions, and safety incidents, implementing corrective and preventive actions as appropriate.
  • Ensure employees receive required safety training and reinforce compliance with established safety procedures and safe operating practices.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities, including evacuation procedures, emergency response protocols, and participation in safety drills.
  • Stop or suspend work when an unsafe condition presents an immediate risk to employees, equipment, product quality, or the environment, and promptly notify management.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area in accordance with 5S and housekeeping standards.
  • Perform all job duties in a manner that protects the health and safety of employees, contractors, visitors, company assets, and the environment.

 

Quality & Process Excellence:

  • Ensure all products meet Lucchese quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Reinforce adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Prevent unauthorized process changes and escalate improvement opportunities through the appropriate approval process.
  • Partner with Quality and Manufacturing leadership to investigate root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve processes, workflow, and quality.
