Senior Backend Engineer
About this role
We’re looking for an experienced Backend Engineer at LlamaIndex to own end-to-end product lifecycles, ship features from scratch, and scale our core APIs in a fast-paced startup. You’ll work closely with product and customers, and have opportunities to contribute to AI/LLM-native applications.
What youll do
- Build out new features and scale backend capabilities with a primary focus on core APIs.
- Take ownership of backend services and drive scalable, production-ready solutions.
- Work closely with product and engineering teams to iterate on the roadmap for core features.
- Design, build, and maintain the backend stack, including Python, Kubernetes, Terraform, Postgres, and Temporal.
- Lead backend projects from prototype to production, delivering to end users quickly.
- Translate user feedback into features and contribute to user discovery to improve the platform.
What LlamaIndex is looking for
- 5+ years in backend engineering roles (preferably in early-stage startups).
- Strong Python development experience and production-grade API work.
- Experience with Terraform, Kubernetes (or Helm/Docker), and Temporal.
- Experience building or shipping AI/LLM-native applications.
- Experience building and launching APIs or backend services from scratch in production.
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL and meaningful open-source contributions.
- Experience with developer tooling or B2B infrastructure (document security, config-based products).
- Strong CS fundamentals; education generalized (e.g., CS-focused background).
