Responsible for providing regulatory compliance, oversight and guidance for the import and export of products and services traded by LKQ’s North American business entities.

Essential Job Duties

  • Develop and manage comprehensive export and import control programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations in the conduct of import and export-related activities consistent with LKQ’s Code of Ethics.
  • Develop strategies and processes around trade compliance. Implement improvements in critical areas of trade in terms of documentation, valuation, duty recovery and HS classification.
  • Conduct routine audits and make recommendations for changes as policies, laws and regulations change by either corporate and/or government agencies.
  • Work closely with LKQ Supply Chain in areas of inbound and outbound freight and billings associated to those businesses, and collaborate in pursuing cost reduction or other initiatives in those areas that involve international trade.
  • Lead engagement with IT and other resources within the business to define, design and develop solutions on trade compliance matters to mitigate risks and reduce costs.
  • Interpret and advise the business on matters concerning US Customs, Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and other Government Agency rules and regulations.
  • Ensure the timely payment of any applicable customs duties, taxes, and other trade-related fees.
  • Manage LKQ’s relationships with customs brokers and freight forwarders, including the negotiation of rate structures and service agreements; periodically monitor these business partners for performance and adherence to agreed KPIs.
  • Manage LKQ’s relationship with third-party trade counsel, and provide oversight of any third-party audits, reviews, or other projects as may be required.
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver training on Customs and Trade topics as needed to internal and external partners.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manage the work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff.

Minimum Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Knowledge expert; typically 7 years+ in specialized profession or equivalent including 3 years+ management experience; degree required; advanced degree and professional certification preferred
  • Experience within an organization with significant imports/exports.

Preferred Requirements

  • Licensed Customs Broker.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience; 5+ years managing others.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Frequent use of Outlook, Word, Excel, graphics, etc. Ability to create, maintain and incorporate functions into Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, databases, and PowerPoint presentations to support business objectives.
  • Frequently communicates complex information across departments and interacts with management. Can present, resolve and address delicate situations. Can motivate and persuade others.

Essential Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work is primarily sedentary: must be able to sit for extended time periods and use a computer, keyboard, and mouse, frequently.
  • Travel may be required periodically, including overnight stays (contingent on position requirements).
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
