As Supervisor, EMS and Advanced Applications at the Lower Colorado River Authority, you will guide a team that crafts, develops, and maintains critical Energy Management System (EMS) tools and applications. These systems support dispatching, monitoring, and controlling LCRA’s assets in the ERCOT electrical market. You will face complicated grid issues with fresh solutions, ensuring consistent real-time operations and system stability. We seek a self-reliant specialist who excels in resolving complex problems. This person will lead ongoing progress and guide colleagues who are building their skills in this fast-paced, essential workplace.


How You’ll Contribute

  • Manage, align, and lead the work of engineers and technical staff accountable for software and advanced applications in the LCRA Transmission Service Corporation (TSC) SCADA/EMS, PI Historian, Jira & SharePoint support services, along with cybersecurity support responsibilities. 
  • Develop strategic and operating plans, goals, objectives, priorities, and procedures. Ensure they align with LCRA’s strategic goals for all departments and staff reporting to this position. 
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Point of Contact (POC) with EMS and AVEVA PI vendors. Implement upgrades, request new features or customization, and support testing and successful implementation of these tasks. 
  • Collaborate with other teams within the Technical & Engineering department to automate and improve processes and develop new in-house tools to improve existing processes. 
  • Lead operational technology projects and provide consultative expertise on the EMS, AVEVA PI, and related applications. Coordinate 24/7 on-call support activities to ensure high availability and robustness of critical control room applications and engineering tools. 
  • Ensure awareness and compliance with EMS, NERC, FERC, and ERCOT Security Critical Infrastructure Protection Standards. 

How You’re Qualified

  • Nine or more years of experience in analysis, configuration and technical support of energy management systems, SCADA, automatic generation controls (AGC) or Windows-based servers or other relevant experience, including at least three years of experience with energy management systems.
  • A degree(s) in engineering, computer science, math, business or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.

How You’ll Stand Out

  • Proven experience in software development and engineering projects, including at least six years supporting real-time applications with energy management systems. A degree(s) in engineering, computer science, math, business, or a relevant field may be substituted by LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience. 
  • Experience in the development and implementation of SCADA/EMS applications, with specific knowledge of Transmission operations and GE Power on Reliance (POR) or equivalent software. 
  • Outstanding leadership, direction, and supervisory skills for staff. Proven expertise in analyzing and solving complex problems using creative thinking. 
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with peers, teams, users, managers, and vendors. Excellence in verbal and written communication. 
  • Skill in assessing the long-term impact of improvements on business and evaluating time and resources. Skill in preparing and presenting proposals and negotiating with project sponsors and vendors. 
  • Ability to manage controversy and make decisions under pressure. Ability to work on multiple projects or programs with tight deadlines. Skilled at analyzing quality assurance and performance improvement. Capable of balancing competing and high-priority work demands.
