Description
The Kentucky Public Service Commission regulates the intrastate rates and services of more than 1,100
investor-owned electric, natural gas, telephone, water and sewage utilities, customer-owned electric and
telephone cooperatives, water districts and associations, and certain aspects of gas pipelines. Our mission
is to foster the provision of safe and reliable service at a reasonable price to the customers of
jurisdictional utilities while providing for the financial stability of those utilities by setting fair and
just rates.
The Utility Inspector II position will be responsible for performing professional level work in the inspection and investigation of public water and sewer utilities ensuring compliance with all PSC laws, regulations, and codes; and performs other duties as required.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Assists in making technical and operational inspections of Kentucky’s public water and sewer facilities for compliance with codes, laws, and regulations.
- Assists in the investigation of accidents and complaints involving the services of public water and sewer utilities.
- Analyzes and evaluates investigative/inspection Information and records concise information into a written report.
- Testify before Commission during hearings and in court relative to inspection, complaints and accident reports submitted.
- Attends and successfully completes required training courses, and sessions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability.
- Ability to work professionally and cooperatively as part of a team.
- Excellent and professional verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated.
- Ability to work under pressure, being able to cope with a high volume of work.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree or associate's degree in industrial or engineering technology, fire science or a related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Must have two years of experience in the operation, regulation, safety or engineering design of a utility or utility related industry.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
Related technical or vocational school training will substitute for the required experience on a year-for- year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Two years of experience in one or more of the following: the operation, regulation, safety or engineering design of a utility or utility related industry and/or two years experience in engineering technology, fire science or a related field will substitute for the required education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials
Working Conditions
Incumbents may be required to carry heavy and potentially hazardous test instruments, traverse uneven and hazardous terrain in all weather conditions, and may be exposed to chemicals and dangerous environments, all of which may require the following of safety procedures. Work is performed in both an office setting and in the field.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
