The Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction, Division of HVAC is responsible for the administration and enforcement of KRS 1988.650 to 1988.689. The HVAC Inspector II serves as an integral part of the building construction process. This position is responsible for the inspection of HVAC installations including review of mechanical drawings, documents and projects, for compliance with the applicable mechanical codes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Independently inspects HVAC installations.
  • Verifies HVAC contractor, mechanics, and apprentices license compliance.
  • Consults with architects and engineers, HVAC contractors, builders, and homeowners on code requirements concerning HVAC systems.
  • Investigates, issues, and reports code violations.
Skills and Expectations include but are not limited to the following:
  • Required to possess a valid driver's license and valid Kentucky Journeyman HVAC Mechanic or Master HVAC Contractor license OR mechanical inspector one- and two- family dwellings AND mechanical inspector general certification.
  • Proficient Communication Skills.
  • Possess sufficient technical knowledge of the construction practices and techniques.
  • Proven abilities to management multiple projects.
  • Conduct effective code research.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Higher level of Customer Service.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have at least six (6) years' experience as a licensed journeyman HVAC mechanic or master HVAC contractor OR four (4) years' experience as an HVAC Inspector I.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must possess a valid Kentucky Journeyman HVAC Mechanic or Master HVAC Contractor license OR mechanical inspector one- and two- family dwellings AND mechanical inspector general certification in accordance with KRS 198B.6678 and 815 KAR 7:070. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Incumbents in this job may be required to travel within a designated inspection area and may be required to safely enter and work in areas with limited or difficult access to conduct inspections.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
