By joining the Division of Forestry/ Forest Management Branch / State Forest and Utilization Section as an interim Facility Maintenance Worker II in Marion County, you will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to ensuring the programmatic integrity of numerous forestry-related programs, and the consistent delivery of services to the public. During the performance of your assigned duties, you will interact on a daily or weekly basis with not only the public, but with branch personnel, branch management, and the division's program staff.

This is an Interim position. An Interim position means a position established to address a one-time or recurring need of less than nine (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115.

Holders of the Facility Maintenance Worker II position will complete tasks such as:
  • Locating and painting boundary lines on State Forests
  • Running and maintaining mechanical equipment such as tractors, mowers, and weed-eaters for grounds maintenance
  • Help with structure maintenance and repairs as needed
  • Maintenance and trash pickup on trails, parking lots, and road ways
Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
  • Be able to run equipment including tractors, mowers, string trimmers
  • Extended amounts of walking in wooded terrain that at times will be steep and rugged
  • Be willing to do whatever is asked for the maintenance and management of the State Forests
  • Be able to use or learn basic computer skills

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: NONE

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services, or mechanical maintenance experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age.
Working Conditions
Incumbents in this job title may be exposed to extreme temperatures which requires the following of safety procedures. Must follow safety procedures, such as utilization of eye and ear protection, when utilizing certain mechanical equipment.
