Description
The Division of Consumer Protection is within the Department of Insurance. The division was
created in 1998 to offer assistance to consumers with insurance-related issues. The division is
responsible for handling consumer complaints against health, life, auto, homeowners and
commercial insurance. The division also takes complaints regarding the actions of an agent or
agency.
We are looking for a Consumer Complaint Investigator II to join our team of highly skilled professionals. As a Consumer Complaint Investigator II, you will perform professional level work in the examination, evaluation and investigation of highly complex complaints concerning potential violations of program laws and regulation; mediate compliance violations where legal action is not appropriate; and perform other duties as required.

We are looking for a Consumer Complaint Investigator II to join our team of highly skilled professionals. As a Consumer Complaint Investigator II, you will perform professional level work in the examination, evaluation and investigation of highly complex complaints concerning potential violations of program laws and regulation; mediate compliance violations where legal action is not appropriate; and perform other duties as required.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Investigates complex complaints received from the general public as to violations of Kentucky statutes and regulations by conducting field investigations and interviews as well as investigates complaints through oral and written communication to parties involved in the complaint. Recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Independently performs at a professional level by answering complex inquiries from the general public regarding insurance laws and regulations by drafting letters, memos and use form letters to respond to inquiries from the general public regarding insurance issues in relation to KY statutes and regulations.
- Prepares reports, charts and other material by operating the internal database which is used to track, manage, update and successfully close every complaint opened.
- Cooperates with other Divisions within the Department of Insurance, other state department of insurance and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Abides by department rules, regulations and policies when performing investigative work.
- Assist other DOI investigators with consumer complaint investigations.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Must have three years experience in the fields of investigating, auditing, consumer education, mediating or resolving complaints or a related field.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Experience in investigating, auditing, consumer education, mediating or resolving complaints or a related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Working Conditions
May work irregular hours due to nature of investigative work. Will be required to travel in the course of investigations. Works in all types of weather.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
