Bioprocess Engineer / Indoor Farming Engineer
About this role
About KULT FARM
KULT FARM makes a true and natural alternative to meat from mycelium solid state fermentation. As a venture-backed business, we are pioneering this approach.
Our mission đ is to foster the worldâs transition to a sustainable food system- without asking consumers to compromise on taste, texture, or price.
Our planet đ cannot sustain our current food system; therefore, we believe in producing exceptional alternative products to remove the current strain on our environment and ensure food security for our future ever-growing population.
This is your opportunity to have an impact on our planet and experience a startup in its earliest days.
Tasks
This role sits at the intersection of bioprocess engineering, indoor farming, and applied microbiology, and is critical to translating lab-scale fermentation into robust, scalable, and economically viable production systems.
We are looking for a responsible, organised individual with a practical approach to work on scaling our solid-state fermentation plant.
We are not looking for scientists.
Key responsibilities đ
Fermentation
- Design and implement fermentation infrastructure, including incubation environments, airflow systems, humidity control, and thermal management.
- Develop fermentation processes, including inoculation strategies, substrate conditioning and harvest protocols.
- Monitor and control critical process parameters (moisture, temperature, airflow, Oâ/COâ, pH where relevant) to hit target yields, product specs and consistency
Indoor farming systems
- Coâdesign and operate our indoor farming infrastructure: trays, racks, climate rooms, sensors, air handling, humidification and lighting (where applicable).
- Collaborate with mechanical/electrical partners on layout, utilities and ergonomics for scalable farm modules (from pilot to preâindustrial).
- Ensure high uptime and robust operation of equipment through basic maintenance, troubleshooting and coordination with external technicians.
Process engineering
- Integration into and process engineering on the full production chain.
- Collaborate closely with R&D to translate experimental protocols into scalable, repeatable processes.
Scaleâup and industrialisation
- Translate pilot learnings into engineering inputs for largerâscale facilities (mass balances, capacity calculations, throughput models).
- Facility layout planning and equipment selection for pilot scale to industrial setup.
Requirements
- Degree in Bioprocess / Chemical / Biochemical / Agricultural / Electrical Engineering, Biotechnology, Food or Environmental Engineering, or similar.
- At least 2 years proven handsâon experience in fermentation, controlled-environment agriculture, mushroom farming, vertical / indoor farming, or similar process industries.
- Proven experience operating and troubleshooting pilotâ or productionâscale systems (bioreactors, climate rooms, indoor farms, or analogous equipment).
- Solid understanding of mass and energy balances, heat and mass transfer, and basic process control concepts.
- Comfortable working physically in a pilot production plant environment (cleaning, handling trays, doing measurements) as part of the daily work.
- Working proficiency in English; Spanish and/or German is a plus .
- A track record of willingness to learn, adapt, get stuff done, and be proactive
- Independence and strong sense of ownership for tasks
