About this role
Clinical & Operations:
- Perform cytopathology laboratory activities, including preparation, processing, staining, screening and evaluation of cytology specimens in accordance with established procedures.
- Perform technical assessment and preliminary screening of cytology slides and identify abnormal or suspicious findings for appropriate referral to the Pathologist.
- Ensure proper handling, identification, processing and documentation of cytology specimens to maintain specimen integrity and traceability.
- Operate, maintain and troubleshoot cytology-related laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of new cytopathology services, techniques and processes.
- Ensure compliance with Laboratory Information System (LIS) requirements for cytology specimen registration, processing and reporting.
- Support workload management and ensure timely completion of cytology cases in accordance with established turnaround time (TAT).
Administrative:
- Maintain accurate cytopathology records, statistics and workload data, including quality indicators and turnaround time monitoring.
- Assist in monitoring cytology supplies, reagents and consumables to ensure adequate stock levels and proper storage.
- Support the Laboratory Manager/Pathologist in reviewing and improving cytopathology workflows and service delivery.
Staff Development:
- Assist in training and mentoring laboratory personnel in cytopathology procedures, slide preparation, staining techniques and laboratory practices.
- Maintain and demonstrate competency in cytopathology techniques through continuous education, competency assessment and relevant professional development.
Quality, Safety & Health:
- Ensure compliance with applicable cytopathology quality requirements, ISO 15189 standards, internal quality control procedures and laboratory policies.
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance programmes relevant to cytopathology.
- Ensure proper handling, storage and disposal of cytology specimens, reagents and laboratory waste in accordance with safety requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, risk management and corrective/preventive actions relating to cytopathology services.
Preferred Qualification / Additional Advantage:
- Possession of CTIAC (Certificate in Technical/Clinical? Cytology) certification or other recognised cytopathology-related certification will be an added advantage.
- Relevant experience in Cytopathology/Cytology laboratory operations, including cytology specimen processing, staining and slide screening, will be an added advantage.
