Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood banking. The role involves conducting diagnostic testing, analyzing test results, and maintaining laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable outcomes. The MLT collaborates with laboratory staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide timely and effective patient care in an acute care hospital setting.
Essential Functions
- Perform laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, urinalysis, and immunohematology.
- Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment according to established protocols.
- Analyze test results for accuracy, identify anomalies, and take corrective action as necessary.
- Document test results and report critical values promptly to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain quality control and quality assurance protocols to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection as required.
- Assist in training new laboratory staff and students on laboratory procedures and protocols.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with medical staff, patients, and other departments regarding laboratory procedures and test results.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain clinical competencies.

Education
- Associate’s Degree in medical laboratory technology, applied science, biology or related field (Required)
Licenses/Certifications
- MLT-Medical Lab Technician (ASCP) Upon Hire (Preferred) And
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or within facility-specified time frame (May be Required-Facility Specific)
Experience
- 1-3 years clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory setting (Preferred)
