About this role

At Keywords Studios we are looking for an accomplished, enthusiastic and self-motivated Technical Artist to join our team working on an exciting, new and unannounced project.

Only those with relevant working rights for Malaysia and Indonesia will be considered. Sponsorship and relocation are not being offered as part of this package.

A Technical Artist at Keywords Studios:

  • Creates and maintains tools, scripts and pipelines that help the art team produce high-quality visual content efficiently.
  • Works closely with artists, designers, engineers and other technical experts to identify technical issues, improve workflows and support production needs.
  • Helps the art team communicate technical requirements and constraints to the development team.
  • Solves technical challenges creatively to maximise visual quality while staying within real-time performance and hardware limitations.
  • Supports the creation, optimisation and implementation of complex visual content, including materials, shaders, procedural assets and VFX.
  • Prototypes, develops, profiles and implements procedural VFX, including particles, post-processing effects, shaders and related visual systems.
  • Contributes to pipeline development, optimisation and best practices across content creation, integration and performance.
  • Drives the creation of complex procedural and physically based content, helping ensure assets are efficient, scalable and production-ready.
  • Proven experience as a Technical Artist or similar role on a commercial game development project.
  • Strong understanding of real-time art production, optimisation, pipeline development and technical problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in scripting and other languages such as MAXScript, MEL, C#, Python, HLSL, GLSL.
  • Good artistic eye, with the ability to balance visual quality, technical constraints and performance requirements.
  • Experience with VFX, materials, shaders, lighting models, tool development, optimisation and pipeline development.
  • Experience working with modern game engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity or proprietary engines.
  • Experience with art production tools such as Photoshop, Houdini, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, Maya or 3DS Max.
  • Familiarity with source control workflows, ideally Perforce.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and iterate quickly based on feedback.
