About the job:  

Kent is looking for an MV/HV Testing Specialist You will be required to support all phases of the projects to suit the needs and requirements of Kent as well as our Client. 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

The MV/HV Cable Testing Specialist is responsible for delivering high quality, consistent and competent service in accordance with project / company requirements, standards and procedures to support overall delivery of company goals and schedule. The Testing & Pre-Commissioning Engineer is responsible for performing testing and commissioning functions on high voltage & medium voltage systems on the project.  

  • Ensure compliance with the site cardinal safety rules and with all safety aspects in the execution of HV/MV work on site.
  • Complete job safety assessments (JSA).
  • Verify installation quality and ensure compliance with drawings, standards, and specifications
  • Develop and review Testing plans, procedures, and test scripts for electrical systems and equipment.
  • Performs the testing’s, such as Protection Relay Testing & functional test, Transformer testing & pre-commissioning, Hi-Pot Test, Insulation Resistance Test, Contact Resistance Test, Polarization Index, Winding Test, illumination Test Torqueing and maintenance of all electronic equipment in the industrial environment
  • Troubleshooting & diagnostics of problems on electrical & control equipment.
  • Familiar & competent with the use of various types of electrical & instrumentation test equipment
  • Carry lock out tag out system, supervise and control LOTO procedure familiar with HV switchgear control
  • Prepare detailed test reports, punch lists, and as-built documentation  
  • Testing and Commissioning of all Electrical equipment from 415V to 400kV System
  • Ensure that all test equipment is available with valid calibration certificates.
  • Assist vendor representatives and site operations in commissioning and startup (energization) activities for high voltage electrical systems.  

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Qualification/ Training/ Certification:  

  • Electrical Engineering degree and fully completed apprenticeship or equivalent. 
  • More than 5 years of experience HV/MV cable testing and other Electrical Commissioning related activities

Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical single-line, schematic and wiring diagrams.
  • CEC, CSA installation standards etc.
  • Experience of high voltage distribution equipment.
  • Ability to use a variety of high voltage electrical test equipment.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.  
  • Competency in English a benefit when not a first language (IELTS score of 6.5 / TOEFL score 79-93).
  • Strong work ethics with a pragmatic approach.
  • Good communicator with management and staff.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and tactically, balancing these as workload changes.
