About the job: 

Kent is seeking an HVAC Commissioning Technician to be based in Port Arthur, TX, to provide technical support to Commissioning Engineers during pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, testing, and verification activities for HVAC and refrigeration systems. Working under the technical direction and supervision of qualified Commissioning Engineers, the role supports the execution of engineering-approved commissioning procedures, performs technical testing, collects and documents system performance data, assists with troubleshooting activities, and contributes to the successful completion of commissioning activities.

 

Skills and Responsibilities:  

Responsibilities:

  • Support Commissioning Engineers in planning and executing discipline-specific pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
  • Support the coordination of daily field activities of technicians, vendors, and specialty contractors under the direction of Commissioning Engineers.
  • Communicate engineering-approved commissioning procedures and provide technical guidance regarding execution of assigned commissioning activities.
  • Verify that commissioning work packages, check sheets, and documentation are complete and available for execution in accordance with engineering requirements.
  • Support the implementation of permitting, isolations, LOTO, and safe work practices in accordance with project procedures.
  • Adhere to safety related subjects outlined by Company such as RoK regulatory requirements, Environment Concerns, Safe Operations, Emergency Response, JSA, PPHA, permit to work, LOTO and SIMOPS.
  • Apply Incident & Injury Free culture and fully understand the expectations, duties and responsibilities.
  • Exhibits exemplary safety behaviour/culture.
  • Participate in and facilitate toolbox meetings to communicate approved work plans and safety requirements.
  • Assist technicians in the execution of engineering-approved commissioning activities by providing technical input and supporting field implementation.
  • Complete Pre-Commissioning/Commissioning activities as per project procedures.
  • Set up, calibrate and operate test equipment and record test data.
  • Assist Commissioning Engineers in troubleshooting HVAC systems by collecting technical data, performing field verification, implementing engineering recommendations, and documenting results.
  • Carry out the HVAC testing as per B and C check sheets.

 

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

 

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:   

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification: 

 

  • At least 8 years of experience of HVAC testing, pre-commissioning and commissioning.
  • Fully trained in P&ID and HVAC diagram reading.
  • Qualified to handle abnormal and emergency situations Trained and qualified in HVAC engineering and machinery fundamentals.
  • Qualified to carry out commissioning and fault finding on HVAC equipment such as chillers, AHUs, Filters, Louvers, Scrubbers, VAV’s, Packaged and Split AC’s, Pumps, Fan Chillers, Coolant Piping, Refrigerant and Piping, Hangers and Supports, including all types of duct work.
  • Qualified to carry out testing and charging of refrigeration systems and repair of pipework by brazing.
  • Qualified in airflow measurements and balancing HVAC systems.
  • Experience in testing and flow balancing of complex HVAC systems.
  • Strong technical knowledge supporting HVAC commissioning and startup activities.
  • Demonstrable history of working within safety and quality cultures.
  • Good record of accomplishment of major project delivery in a technical role.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to convey complex information to others.
  • Experience of commissioning complex plant.
  • Experience working with field technicians and supporting multidisciplinary commissioning teams.
  • Set-up and test instrumentation and automation systems.
  • Basic computer training such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.

 

 

 

Communication:

  • Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.
