The Woodbury, Long Island office of Kaufman Dolowich, a full-service National Law firm with more than 250 attorneys across 16 offices and over 25 practice areas, is actively seeking an attorney to join our growing civil defense litigation team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced litigators on sophisticated professional liability matters in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. Our attorneys receive meaningful hands-on experience, direct client interaction, and strong mentorship while representing professionals, businesses, and insurers in complex litigation matters.

 

The ideal candidate will have between two (2) and six (6) years of civil defense litigation experience. This position provides the opportunity to work on a broad range of matters.

 

Responsibilities

  • Handle all phases of professional liability defense litigation from inception through resolution
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, legal memoranda, and other litigation-related documents
  • Conduct legal research, assist with litigation strategy, and case analysis
  • Manage discovery, prepare for, and attend depositions, mediations, hearings, and trial preparation
  • Communicate directly with clients, insurers, opposing counsel, and witnesses while providing regular case updates and strategic guidance
  • Collaborate closely with attorneys across offices and practice groups on complex litigation matters
  • Provide proactive case management and client reporting 

Qualifications

  • Admission to practice in New York required
  • 2–6 years of litigation and/or professional liability defense experience
  • Strong writing, research, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced litigation environment
  • Strong organizational, case management, and interpersonal skills 

Preferred Experience

  • Professional liability defense litigation
  • Errors & Omissions (E&O) claims
  • Legal malpractice, accounting malpractice, insurance broker liability, or other professional liability matters
  • Experience handling depositions, motion practice, mediations, and court appearances
  • Experience working with insurers and insured professionals

Base Salary Range: $110,000-$155,000

Please note that the stated salary range is an estimate and does not guarantee a specific offer. Actual compensation will be determined based on market location, as well as the candidate’s experience, skills, and job-related qualifications. Base salary represents just one component of the comprehensive Total Rewards package offered by Kaufman Dolowich, which also includes a discretionary and billable hours-based bonus program and a robust benefits offering for full-time employees.
