Job Summary:
The GI Attendant, under general supervision of a department head and functional direction of a Registered Nurse, assists the physician with endoscopy procedures and cleans/maintains endoscopes and accessories.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. Obtain pertinent information from patient before or after procedure following standard guidelines and notifying the RN/physician of non-routine answers. Ensures the availability and operation of equipment prior to each procedure according to protocols. Under direct supervision, assist the provider (e.g. positioning patients) with endoscopy procedures; polypectomy, biopsy, cytology, and cultures. Clean and maintain special scopes/equipment according to established guidelines. Cleans the procedure room after each use. Documents the preventative maintenance, repair and costs of GI equipment. Adheres to established chart documentation and format protocols. Assist with ordering supplies and equipment. Principle Job Duties and Skills: �Prepare G.I. procedure room for procedures (endoscopy, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy.). Assist physician with procedures, including care of biopsy specimens. �Assemble, disassemble, inspect and lubricate endoscopes and other instruments. �Clean, disinfect and sterilize endoscopes and other instruments. �Follow standard infection control procedures. �Set up procedure rooms as directed. �Clean each procedure room after use. �Assist with transporting patients to the recovery area. �Trouble shoot and attend to video endoscopy equipment. �Assist with patient teaching regarding prep information for endoscopy procedures, following established protocols. �Answer phone calls for the G.I. Lab, including message tracking for the physicians, RNs and LVNs. �Assist with receiving and checking in patients to ensure timely processing. �Schedule and confirm endoscopy appointments as directed. �Maintain inventory of supplies. �Maintain clean work area. �Care of equipment to include cleaning, soaking, decontamination, inspecting, assembling, wrapping and sterilization. �May perform other activities and duties as directed. Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- 1-2 recent years experience in patient care function required.
- One year GI lab experience preferred.
- Knowledge of instrument cleaning/sterilization. Ability to lift, bend, stoop and push equipment as required.
