OVERHAUL ENGINE SHOP TECHNICIAN

Summary: The LA OH Engine Shop Technician is responsible for performing complete engine and compressor maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and overhauls on industrial natural gas and diesel engines in a shop environment. This position requires advanced mechanical knowledge, strong troubleshooting ability, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform skilled maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and complete engine overhauls on industrial gas and diesel engines.
• Perform major overhauls and rebuilds on Caterpillar G-Series engines including:
  • G3300 Series
  • G3400 Series
  • G3500 Series
  • G3600 Series
• Perform maintenance and overhaul work on Waukesha engines including:
  • 5794GSI
  • 7044GSI
  • 7042GSI
  • 3521GSI
  • 1197
  • VRG220
  • VRG330
• Assist with diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on Caterpillar diesel engine platforms including:
  • C4.4
  • C7
  • C9
  • C13
  • C15
  • C18
  • C27
  • C32
  • 3500 Series
• Comply with all company, customer, and safety policies and procedures.
• Complete service documentation, inspections, and required paperwork accurately and on time.
• Utilize computers and diagnostic tools to support troubleshooting and repairs.
• Continue developing technical knowledge to stay aligned with industry advancements.
• Demonstrate leadership and maintain a professional image while working independently and as part of a team.
• Attend required training classes, certifications, and seminars.

 Qualifications:

• Proficient in engine and compressor maintenance and overhaul procedures.
• Strong troubleshooting skills involving electronic and mechanical control systems.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Ability to work assigned schedules and meet operational demands.
• Must pass required drug screening and background checks.
• Must maintain a full set of hand tools meeting company standards.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• General computer skills with the ability to use diagnostic software.

 Education and/or Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Formal vocational or technical training preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of compressor and engine maintenance experience preferred.
• Experience with Caterpillar and Waukesha engine platforms required.
• Experience with Ariel, GE, and other gas compressor systems preferred.
• Experience with emissions controls, control panels, and Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) systems preferred.
• Limited diesel engine experience is acceptable; industrial gas engine overhaul experience is strongly preferred.

Language Skills:

• Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to maintain an acceptable driving record

Physical Demands:

• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to safely perform physically demanding shop work.
