About this role

Responsibilities:

  • Independently apply advanced knowledge of scientific research in within area of expertise (neuroscience, particularly in neurodegeneration/neuroprotection) and CNS-related fields to manage and coordinate the in vivo activities to support the projects
  • Serve as a representative on multi-disciplinary project teams to perform screening and characterization experiments to understand compound pharmacokinetics, potency, and functional activity, interfacing internally with Chemistry, DMPK and Biology
  • Participates in proposal preparation in in vivo pharmacology within stand-alone and/or integrated drug discovery projects, including review of proposals. Make presentations to potential clients.
  • Provides therapeutic, scientific and technical expert advice to colleagues
  • Ensures close interaction, collaboration, and communication with other In Vivo Pharmacology departments to communicate new research results and development concepts, actively resolves problems and addresses scientific challenges
  • Identifies and champions the development and implementation of new or expanded in vivo capabilities that will impact future collaborators and research projects; liaises with other groups/departments to achieve this
  • Supports and provides guidance to technical staff - Coordinates, schedules and assigns project-related work to meet completion dates
  • Maintains knowledge of scientific and competitive progress within areas of expertise

Required qualifications

  • PhD degree in a Life Science discipline such as pharmacology, biology, neuroscience, with sustained performance and accomplishments, ideally with industrial experience or equivalent (>2 years) in the requested areas
  • Strong scientific and technical background in the field of expertise and underlying target biology/disease mechanisms
  • Thorough knowledge and hands-on experience of animal models of neurodegenerative diseases and any other neuroscience-related areas
  • Capability of working with a high degree of autonomy and independence
  • High level of initiative and motivation. Excellent interpersonal, technical, and communication skills to be an effective member on cross-functional teams
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English language, German would be a plus

Further ideal qualifications

  • Intensive experience in handling of laboratory animals and FELASA B certificate (or equivalent)
  • Ideally strong experience with CNS-related techniques in rodents (like tissue/cell engraftment, stereotactic implantation, CNS biological sampling type CSF...)
  • Disease expertise in other therapeutic areas like neurodevelopmental and rare diseases and epigenetics would be an advantage
