The Global Trusts & Estates Practice is an integral part of Wealth Management’s offering, delivering fiduciary expertise and comprehensive oversight to help protect and preserve client legacies. The practice includes fiduciary professionals across the U.S. and globally, with dedicated teams specializing in estate administration, trust administration, investment management, tax compliance and administration, philanthropy and grant administration, and specialty asset management.
Mineral Asset Management is a specialized team within J.P. Morgan’s Global Trusts & Estates practice. The team manages mineral interests as fiduciary for Trust, Agency, and Foundation accounts holding oil, gas, and mineral assets. This includes land management, ownership review, lease administration, revenue oversight, documentation, compliance, and risk management related to client mineral assets.
The Mineral Property Analyst will support Mineral Property Managers in the administration, oversight, and value preservation of assets held in fiduciary accounts. The role requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, along with experience in oil and gas land administration, title analysis, division order administration, lease administration, or mineral asset management. Familiarity with trust management, fiduciary oversight, or specialty asset administration is preferred.
Each Mineral Property Analyst’s primary focus is to support effective administration and oversight of mineral assets, help preserve asset value, deepen existing client relationships, and support relationship management and business development efforts, as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Ownership & Title Review
Review deeds, probate documents, leases, assignments, title opinions, division orders, and related documentation to verify mineral, royalty, and working interest ownership. Analyze legal descriptions, acreage, lease burdens, decimal interests, and ownership percentages, and coordinate title curative actions as needed.
Asset and Lease Administration
Establish and maintain accurate oil and gas property, well, lease, payor, and ownership records in internal systems. Process new asset setups, ownership changes, asset transfers, and lease updates while ensuring data consistency across specialty asset platforms. Image and upload title, lease, and related asset documents to the land database.
Revenue Oversight
Monitor royalty, working interest, bonus, delay rental, shut-in, and other oil and gas income payments. Research and resolve payment discrepancies, suspended revenues, improper deductions, escheated funds, underpayments, and title-related payment holds. Review joint interest billings for accuracy and compliance with applicable operating agreements.
Transaction, Proposal, and Due Diligence Support
Support lease negotiations, renewals, acquisitions, divestitures, amendments, and special projects. Document lease proposals and assist with due diligence for mineral, royalty, and working interest transactions, including review of ownership, lease, revenue, and title-related information.
Client and Portfolio Support
Prepare client presentation materials related to mineral asset ownership, lease activity, revenue trends, transaction updates, annual reviews, and special projects. Assist with annual review research by gathering, organizing, and validating relevant asset, lease, revenue, and ownership information. Support relationship management and business development efforts by providing accurate asset information, analysis, and documentation, as appropriate. Use approved technology, automation, and artificial intelligence tools, where appropriate, to support research, document organization, data review, workflow efficiency, and preparation of business materials.
Risk, Compliance, and Fiduciary Governance
Maintain audit-ready records and support fiduciary responsibilities in accordance with Bank policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and internal control standards. Identify and escalate operational, legal, title, lease, revenue, and compliance risks associated with specialty assets.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in oil and gas land administration, title analysis, division order administration, lease administration, or mineral asset management.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Strong understanding of oil and gas title documents, leases, division orders, legal descriptions, ownership interests, lease obligations, and revenue payments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, organizational, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a detail-oriented environment.
- Sound judgment and ability to identify, escalate, and help resolve operational, title, revenue, and fiduciary risk matters.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Energy Management, Petroleum Land Management, Business, Finance, Legal Studies, or a related field.
- Experience with fiduciary, trust, estate, or specialty asset management.
- Experience with oil and gas land systems, land databases, revenue systems, or specialty asset platforms.
- Experience using approved artificial intelligence, automation, or data analytics tools to support document review, research, data validation, process improvement, or business communication.
- Membership in the American Association of Professional Landmen, National Association of Lease and Title Analysts, or National Association of Division Order Analysts.
- Certified Professional Lease and Title Analyst, Registered Professional Landman, Certified Professional Landman, Certified Division Order Analyst, or related designation preferred.
