The Role:
JoVE is looking for a Science Writer to create accurate, engaging, and accessible scientific content for JoVE's global audience. The ideal candidate will have a strong scientific background, excellent writing skills, and the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear and easy-to-understand content.
Responsibilities:
- Convert author-submitted manuscripts into clear, accurate, and engaging voiceover transcripts and video scripts.
- Collaborate with authors to guide their manuscripts through the JoVE video creation process.
- Proofread and review the video scripts to ensure scientific accuracy, clarity, and error-free content.
- Interpret scientific comments, feedback, and requirements accurately and implement necessary changes with precision.
- Utilize AI-assisted writing and editing tools effectively as part of the content development workflow.
- Review journal protocol videos to ensure scientific accuracy and adherence to publication standards.
- Assess author feedback on rough video drafts and effectively communicate required revisions to the video editing team.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting strict production timelines.
- Follow established guidelines and maintain high-quality standards throughout the script development process.
- Take initiative to identify and propose process improvements that enhance efficiency and content quality.
- PhD in biology, molecular biology, bioengineering, chemistry, or a related natural science discipline.
- 1-3 years of experience in scientific communication, technical writing, or educational content creation.
- Experience in teaching or content/curriculum development is preferred.
- Strong scientific and technical vocabulary with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated strength in editing and proofreading.
- Ability to apply AI-assisted tools in writing, editing, or content development workflows.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify scientific inaccuracies in written and visual materials.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to follow detailed guidelines and consistently meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional production teams.
- Enthusiasm for science and a willingness to learn about new research areas and visual communication methods.
- A record of original research published in peer-reviewed scientific journals is strongly preferred.
