The Lead Facilities Engineer partners closely with Operations, Drilling, Completions, EHS, Supply Chain, Regulatory, and Commercial teams to deliver capital projects, support production objectives, improve asset performance, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. The role is accountable for establishing engineering best practices, managing projects, managing budgets, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across company-operated facilities.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Engineering Leadership

Lead and manage facilities engineering activities supporting upstream, midstream, and production operations.
Establish engineering standards, specifications, procedures, and best practices.
Provide technical guidance and approval for facility designs, modifications, and operating strategies.
Develop and execute facility optimization plans to improve safety, reliability, production efficiency, and cost performance.
Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.

Project Execution

Lead and manage capital and expense projects from initial concept through project closeout in close coordination and collaboration with the Field Construction Team.
Prioritize projects based on business needs, production objectives, risk mitigation, and return on investment.
Coordinate with vendors, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout project execution.
Monitor project schedules, budgets, scope, and performance metrics.

Operations Support

Provide engineering support for production facilities, gathering systems, compression facilities, water handling systems, and processing equipment.
Lead troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis for facility and equipment issues.
Continuously gather feedback from production engineering and operations team members and identify opportunities to increase reliability, throughput, and operational efficiency as well as drive operating expenses down.
Oversee compression fleet and manage optimization.
Support management of change (MOC) activities and operational readiness reviews.
Evaluate production constraints and develop engineering solutions to enhance facility performance.

Asset Integrity and Reliability

Develop and maintain asset integrity and reliability programs.
Ensure inspection, maintenance, and testing requirements are established and followed.
Monitor equipment performance and implement reliability improvement initiatives.
Support risk assessments and mitigation plans for critical facility systems.
Drive continuous improvement efforts related to equipment uptime and lifecycle management.

Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory Compliance

Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all applicable HSE requirements.
Participate in process safety management and risk management activities.
Support environmental compliance initiatives and sustainability objectives.
Ensure facilities meet federal, state, local, and industry regulations.
Lead engineering investigations related to incidents, near misses, and operational events.

Financial Management

Develop and manage department budgets and forecasts.
Support corporate planning efforts.
Evaluate project economics and support capital allocation decisions.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiencies.
Monitor expenditures and ensure responsible stewardship of company resources. Provide thorough review of invoices for facilities projects, compression, and others as needed.

General

Knowledge of oil and gas production facilities, compression systems, processing equipment, infrastructure, and applicable industry standards and regulations.
Understanding engineering principles, project execution, process safety, asset integrity, and reliability practices.
Strong leadership, project management, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and contractor management skills.
Ability to lead complex engineering initiatives, manage multiple priorities, make sound technical and business decisions, and build effective cross-functional relationships.
Proficiency with engineering software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to travel to field and project locations as needed.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effectively converse with all levels of the company, customers, business associates.
Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering, or related engineering discipline.
10+ years of upstream oil & gas experience with facilities, pipelines, compression, and project management.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
Experience managing contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants.
Ability to lead complex projects, drive operational improvements, influence cross-functional teams, and balance technical, operational, and financial priorities.
Ability to develop innovative solutions, build collaborative relationships, and effectively manage multiple priorities in a challenging environment.

POSITION SCOPE & IMPACT

The Lead facilities engineer has responsibility for engineering support and strategic oversight of company-operated facilities and infrastructure. The position directly influences the safe, dependable, and efficient operation of production assets and is accountable for excellence in engineering, project execution, asset integrity, and team performance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work in a climate-controlled office and routinely use standard office equipment.
Periodic field exposure, including visits to active drilling locations and well sites. Field conditions may include working outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, and precipitation), exposure to loud noise, heavy equipment, moving machinery, and uneven terrain.
Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), adherence to all safety protocols at field locations.

TRAVEL

Up to 30%, as business requires.

This position is eligible for a 9/80 hybrid work schedule after 30-days of employment. Work is performed at office on Tuesdays through Thursdays, remote work on Mondays and Fridays.
