The Ideal Candidate

The leader of Talent & Development will lead the enterprise talent strategy with a primary focus on building organizational capability, strengthening leadership pipelines, and accelerating the development of high-impact talent across Genesco.

This role will partner closely with senior leadership to ensure we are identifying, developing, and retaining the talent needed to drive performance and execute against our long-term strategy. While recruiting remains an important component, the primary emphasis of this role is on talent development, succession, and organizational effectiveness.

 

How You Will Make an Impact

Talent Strategy & Leadership

  • In partnership with the CHRO, define and lead the enterprise talent strategy aligned to business priorities and long-term growth objectives
  • Partner with leadership to assess organizational capability and identify talent gaps
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on talent, leadership effectiveness, and organizational health

Talent Development & Succession

  • Design and implement enterprise-wide leadership development programs, including high-potential identification and acceleration
  • Lead succession planning processes to ensure strong pipelines for critical leadership roles
  • Partner with leaders to create targeted development plans that build bench strength and readiness
  • Establish scalable development frameworks across key leadership populations

 

Performance & Organizational Effectiveness

  • Lead the performance management strategy to drive a high-performance, accountable culture
  • Ensure differentiation of talent and alignment between performance, potential, and development
  • Support organizational design and effectiveness initiatives as business needs evolve

Culture, Engagement & Inclusion

  • Drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, retention, and overall organizational health
  • Promote a culture of continuous development, inclusion, and high performance
  • Partner with leaders to strengthen team effectiveness and leadership capability

Talent Insights & Analytics

  • Establish and monitor key metrics related to talent development, succession, and retention
  • Use data and insights to inform talent decisions and identify areas for improvement
  • Provide regular updates and recommendations to executive leadership

Talent Acquisition (Secondary Focus)

  • Initially this will be a secondary focus based on business needs and existing team.
  • Oversee talent acquisition strategy to ensure alignment with enterprise talent priorities
  • Partner and manage recruiting team to maintain strong pipelines for critical roles
  • Ensure a seamless connection between external hiring and internal talent development strategies

 Team Scope

  • Lead Talent Management and Development functions
  • Oversight of Talent Acquisition, ensuring alignment but not primary focus
  • Partner closely with HR Business Partners, Total Rewards, and business leaders

 

Expeirence and Skill's You'll Need to Have

  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience
  • Proven experience building and leading leadership development and succession programs or relevant experience that demonstrates ability
  • Strong business acumen and ability to operate as a strategic partner to senior leadership
  • Experience driving performance management and culture initiatives
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and executive presence
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment
