Director, Engineering Excellence
About this role
Position Summary
The Director of Engineering Excellence leads a multi-disciplinary portfolio spanning substance/regulatory compliance, enterprise data governance, cybersecurity program management, and India engineering site leadership. This role acts as the central point of contact between Global Products Business Units (PBUs), IT, and corporate functions, driving standardization, compliance, and operational excellence initiatives across a global engineering organization. The role combines hands-on program management with people leadership, talent development, and executive-level reporting responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Substance & Regulatory Compliance (CSIS)
· Own and drive the enterprise PFAS compliance program (EPA, Canada, Japan, EU-CRA), ensuring full coverage across Global Products Business Units.
· Manage supplier campaigns (Assent-managed services), conflict minerals reporting (CMRT, EMRT, SEC/Sustainability reporting), and smelter conformance tracking.
· Oversee the Regulatory Compliance (RC) Tool, codes & standards subscription services, and related digital platforms (PowerApps migration).
· Partner with Legal, Procurement, and external partners to manage supplier outreach at scale (1,500+ suppliers).
2. Data Governance & Data Factory Leadership
· Direct source-to-target data migration projects (e.g., legacy platform to Windchill/PLM migrations), ensuring data quality targets (95%+ for Parts/BOMs) and minimal quarantine rates.
· Lead part rationalization and Global Parts Library (GPL) adoption across PBUs, including 10-digit part numbering and cross-PBU governance.
· Sponsor AI/automation initiatives for part classification and drive Data Factory capability roadmap (new tools, PBU demonstrations, newsletter/thought leadership).
· Govern master data platforms including MDG/SAP ECC/S4 interfaces (GMMT) and the BOS (Business Operating System / documentation) platform.
3. Cybersecurity & IT Risk Program Management
· Serve as central program manager for enterprise cybersecurity initiatives (e.g., "Project Thunder," "Project Lightning"), covering endpoint protection, vulnerability remediation, cloud hardening, IAM, and secure field installations.
· Coordinate CMDB migration, server intake, and lab segmentation programs across global sites in partnership with IT and managed service providers.
· Build reporting frameworks providing leadership visibility into PBU compliance status and remediation progress.
4. Sustainability & Cross-PBU Initiatives
· Provide program management for cross-PBU sustainability efforts (e.g., Low Global Warming Potential refrigerant transition), coordinating regulatory, product management, and engineering stakeholders.
· Support enterprise sustainability metrics rollout, including training on embodied carbon and weight-reduction methodologies.
5. People Leadership & Talent Development
· Drive diversity & inclusion hiring and leadership development goals; sponsor high-potential talent into stretch leadership roles.
· Manage voluntary and critical-talent attrition through engagement and career-growth initiatives.
· Oversee training needs analysis and competency development (target: 20+ training hours/employee/year) across technical, leadership, and soft-skill domains.
· Drive employee engagement through recognition programs (e.g., Bravo) and voice/engagement survey action planning.
6. Executive Reporting & Innovation Culture
· Ensure transparent, accurate, and timely reporting of all Central Engineering initiatives to staff meetings, CoE Reviews, Global Product Leadership Reviews, and Townhalls.
· Champion innovation culture through enterprise-wide innovation events (e.g., Tech Challenge), driving invention disclosures and idea submissions.
Qualifications
Required:
· Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field; advanced coursework or certification in data science, program management, or compliance preferred.
· 10+ years of experience in engineering operations, program management, or regulatory compliance within a global manufacturing or engineering organization.
· Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional, multi-geography programs (APAC/EU/NA) involving IT, engineering, legal, and procurement stakeholders.
· Experience with PLM/ERP systems (e.g., SAP MDG/ECC/S4, Windchill, NetSuite) and compliance platforms (e.g., Assent).
· Strong people-leadership track record, including coaching and developing technical subject-matter experts.
· Experience with data analytics/automation tools (Power BI, Power Automate, PowerApps) and AI-driven classification initiatives.
· Prior experience leading cybersecurity or IT risk remediation programs.
· Executive presence and experience presenting to senior leadership (Director level and above).
