Job Description:

About the Business

The environment in which the Shell brand operates is undergoing profound transformation. Artificial intelligence increasingly shapes what people see, think, and believe about companies; media is fragmented and fast-moving; and trust, reputation and brand meaning are continuously influenced by real-world events, stakeholder expectations and cultural dynamics. In this context, decisions can no longer rely on instinct, hindsight or static reporting alone.

Shell has articulated an ambitious future. Strategic Communications & Brand (SC&B) operates as one integrated team responsible for building trust, relevance and long-term value—ensuring the vision and strategy are clearly understood and consistently expressed. This creates a strong brand halo that supports the business today and a shield that protects it over time.

The Data, Insights & Intelligence (DI&I) team serves as the central nervous system of SC&B— connecting data, technology, insight and foresight to provide a continuous, real-time understanding of how Shell is experienced by stakeholders and how the world around it is changing. The team ensures that signals are translated into clear, decision-ready intelligence—so leaders understand what is happening, why it matters, and how to act with confidence to build, protect and grow trust, reputation, and enterprise value.

What’s the role

As a Stakeholder Intelligence Advisor you will provide an essential outside-in perspective by helping the organisation understand, quantify and track what’s truly going on in the hearts and minds of our key stakeholders and more importantly why this is so.

This is a role for a senior insights professional who will shape and lead insights programs to enable the SCB teams to build data-driven communication strategies. Reporting to the Head of Stakeholder Intelligence in the DI&I Team, you will leverage audience insights combining this with data across owned and earned media channels to ensure communications objectives and business strategy are supported by data.

Integrate data sources

  • Source agnostic, leading integrated pre and post evaluations of communication campaigns including assessments from opinion research, owned, earned and paid media analysis, with clear and actionable recommendations

  • Where relevant optimize audience segmentations to ensure teams have sharper insights for communications briefs and the media buying agency can target more effectively

Insight to Action

  • Translate data observations into insights

  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to ensure the insights can be connected to real decisions and execution

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Contribute to building a culture of audience-first perspectives; engage with key stakeholders to improve trust and reputation

  • Engage with a wide selection of colleagues in different countries and global teams up to VP level, and with Brand agency partners to deliver key insights.

Agency & Partner Management

  • Ensure agencies are aligned to corporate strategy, research objectives and quality standards

  • Oversee timelines, deliverables and performance across agency projects

What you bring

This is a full-time specialist role requiring deep experience in opinion research and strategic application. Equivalent of an Account Director level on Agency side.

Proven practitioner in B2C and/ or B2B audience insights at client and/ or external consultancy

  • Proven experience of ability to interpret insights in the context of the relevant strategic priorities and form actionable conclusions and recommendations

  • Experience of multi-source data integration and insight mining

  • Work autonomously on assignments, but contribute to the DII collective

Analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Problem-solving abilities, when presented with challenging or ambiguous requests. Able to work comfortably with uncertainty and proactively address challenges

  • Evidence of best practice analytical knowledge through industry associations such as the MRS or similar

  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills, with the ability to share information in an insightful, simple and visual manner

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
