Safety Supervisor
About this role
Job Summary
Employee will be responsible for planning, leading, organizing, controlling, and evaluating the Safety function across the plant. The role works closely with Plant Management to ensure consistent implementation of safety programs, regulatory compliance, and the promotion of a strong safety culture throughout the facilities.
Education/Experience Requirements
- College/University Degree Preferred; High School Diploma/GED Required
- Two to Five (2-5) Years Related Safety Experience; or Equivalent Combination of Education and Experience
- OSHA Experience, A Plus
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of OSHA, safety, and inspection methods, techniques, and equipment to reason and make judgments to meet deadlines in a high-volume production environment.
- Proficient organizational skills with great attention to detail and a safety orientation mindset
- Verbal/written communication skills to present information or ideas clearly to personnel at all levels of production operations and senior management
- Proficient information gathering and monitoring skills to facilitate effective, unbiased decision making and problem-solving functions.
- Mathematical ability to provide technical support.
- Proficient computer literacy
- “Team” mentality with ability to take initiative and maintain confidentiality.
- Close visual acuity and upper limb coordination with medium (20-30 lbs.) lifting capability during normal phase duties.
- Ability to sit or stand as needed.
Responsibilities
- Performs daily walk-down inspection of plant area to check for safety hazards and/or OSHA violations.
- Retrieves daily safety checklists from working shift from each station/ machine in plant.
- Analyses and participates in management-based safety processes on a regular basis and ensures that all available resources are being utilized effectively.
- Develops preventative and/or corrective actions per results of management-based safety processes and follows up.
- Generates preventative actions and continuous improvement projects.
- Oversee the following areas handled by the H.R. Office Administrator: All OSHA record keeping, safety incentive program administration, Workers’ Compensation program administration.
- Maintain all safety documents and forms to ensure that they are current and readily available to all employees.
- Work with all auditors during the times their efforts are needed.
Work Environment
- Majority of work performance is conducted in a steel manufacturing plant that contains heavy production machinery and job-specific equipment and tools. Occasional work performance is conducted in a climate-controlled plant office that contains office machinery and equipment with intermittent off-site work performance that may require air or motorized travel with exposure to flight or road hazards and variations in weather conditions.
- Safety training, written procedures, and continual improvement measures are implemented to eliminate or control any physical/environmental hazards that may be present in the workplace.
- Employee use of personal protective equipment is enforced for all phases of job performance to prevent bodily injury.

- Job performance demands constant application of the following physical requirements: use of hands.
- Job performance demands frequent application of the following physical requirements: sitting, walking, fine manipulation, close visual acuity, upper limb coordination.
- Job performance demands occasional application of the following physical requirements: light/medium (20-30 lbs.) lifting, standing, carrying, reaching, overhead reaching/lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, twisting, climbing, balancing, driving, near/far vision, total visual field, multiple limb coordination.
