Day in the Life: Heavy Equipment Field Technician
Traveling to/from and working safely onsite to get the customer up and running in a timely manner
Inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, adjusting, and maintaining various types of construction equipment onsite at customer locations
Utilizing problem-solving resources such as DTAC, technical manuals, personal skills and experience to perform diagnosis of equipment problems
Requesting proper parts needed for repair through the parts department, keeping track of machine status, and executing the sequence of repairs
Conducting engine underhauls, head gaskets, rear axle replacement, hydraulic valves and pumps, rock shafts, and transmission repairs
Preparing accurate inspection and service reports, and maintaining other records as required
Need to Succeed
Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record are required to operate a field service truck; medical DOT card is also required
3-5 years or more of experience as a mechanic working on diesel equipment, specifically construction and/or forestry equipment is required, with experience as a field technician in heavy equipment industry strongly preferred.
Computer experience in dealer systems such as CDK, John Deere systems or similar, with the ability to utilize laptop systems to help in diagnostic process
Certification as a Level III John Deere Certified Technician or equivalent is highly preferred
Must be able to train in the dealership location prior to starting road calls
