Job Description
The SENCo and SEN Centre Lead at Tenby International School Setia EcoHill is responsible for the strategic leadership, day-to-day operation, quality assurance, and continued development of the School’s specialist SEN Centre. The post-holder will lead the vision, mission, systems and culture of the Centre, ensuring that students aged 4– 16 with Special Educational Needs receive high quality, evidence-informed and childcentred support across both Primary and Secondary.
As a member of the School Senior Leadership Team, the SENCo and SEN Centre Lead will contribute to whole-school strategy, safeguarding, learning improvement, parent engagement, staff development, and inclusive practice. The post-holder will have significant autonomy over the daily running of the SEN Centre, while ensuring that the Centre’s work is aligned with the School’s mission, policies, learning priorities, and expectations for student progress, safety and wellbeing.
The SENCo and SEN Centre Lead will work closely with the Campus Principal, Heads of School, class teachers, form tutors, subject teachers, the Specialist Occupational Therapist, the Speech and Language Therapist, SEN Teaching and Learning Assistants, parents, external professionals and students to identify needs, plan support, deliver interventions, evaluate impact, and ensure that students are safe, happy, included and learning.

SENCo & SEN Centre Lead - Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership
- Lead the vision, development and continuous improvement of the SEN Centre in line with whole-school priorities.
- Ensure inclusive, child-centred practice that supports learning, wellbeing, independence and access.
- Develop and implement SEN policies, procedures, intervention models and support systems.
- Advise the Principal and SLT on SEN strategy, resourcing, staffing, safeguarding and admissions.
- Represent SEN at leadership level and promote the Centre as a high-quality, specialist provision.
2. Operational Management
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the SEN Centre, including timetabling, caseloads, resources and communication systems.
- Line manage and support SEN staff, ensuring quality and consistency of provision.
- Coordinate teachers, therapists and external professionals for cohesive student support.
- Maintain clear systems for referrals, documentation, interventions and review processes.
- Support admissions for students with SEN, advising on provision and transition planning.
3. SEN Identification & Intervention
- Lead identification, assessment, planning and review of SEN students across the school.
- Develop and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs/ILPs) and targeted interventions.
- Ensure interventions are measurable, effective and focused on student progress and independence.
- Use data, teacher input, and specialist advice to inform provision and next steps.
- Ensure Teaching Assistants deliver interventions effectively under appropriate guidance.
4. Teaching & Staff Development
- Support teachers with inclusive strategies, differentiation and classroom adjustments.
- Provide training on SEN, behaviour support, communication and learning needs.
- Model best practice through coaching, observation and collaborative problemsolving.
- Work with school leaders to ensure continuity of support across all phases.
5. Parent & Professional Engagement
- Build strong partnerships with parents through clear communication and regular reviews.
- Lead meetings for students with complex needs and ensure student voice is included.
- Liaise with external professionals to ensure coordinated support.
- Provide clear reports and updates to stakeholders.
6. Monitoring, Data & Impact
- Track student progress, wellbeing and intervention effectiveness.
- Quality assure SEN provision, documentation and staff practice.
- Report regularly to SLT on impact, risks and development priorities.
- Contribute to whole-school evaluation and improvement processes.
7. Safeguarding & Standards
- Promote a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all students.
- Ensure safeguarding, confidentiality and record-keeping standards are upheld.
- Monitor behaviour with an understanding of underlying SEN needs.
- Maintain health, safety and risk management within the Centre.
8. Professional Responsibilities
- Model professionalism, integrity and strong communication.
- Build staff capability through coaching and support.
- Stay informed on developments in SEN and inclusive practice.
- Participate in appraisal, training and whole-school activities.
- Manage workload effectively and undertake duties as directed by the Principal.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
A relevant degree and teaching qualification, with additional training or certification in Special Educational Needs (SEN), Inclusion, or a related field. Minimum 5–7 years’ experience supporting students with SEN in a school setting (ages 4–16). Proven experience leading SEN provision, including interventions, IEP/ILP processes, and working with multidisciplinary teams. Experience supporting a wide range of needs (e.g. autism, ADHD, speech and language, dyslexia, sensory and social-emotional needs). Strong understanding of inclusive education, differentiated teaching, safeguarding and child protection. Ability to lead and manage staff, including teaching assistants, therapists and external specialists. Strong communication skills, with the ability to write clear reports and engage effectively with parents and staff. Professional, organised and empathetic, with a strong commitment to student wellbeing and inclusion.
