Job Description
Purpose of the Role
The Secondary Science Teacher at Smart Vision School is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and inclusive science lessons that support the academic, social, and emotional development of secondary students. The teacher will create a positive, stimulating learning environment, fostering curiosity, investigative thinking, and a love of science.
This role aligns with UK Teachers’ Standards, the KHDA Education Inspection Framework, and the UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) science curriculum, ensuring excellence in teaching, safeguarding, wellbeing, inclusion, and student achievement. The teacher will maintain effective communication with parents and colleagues and contribute to the broader SVS community.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
Plan and deliver engaging and practical science lessons across all secondary year groups, aligned with school schemes of work and UAE MoE curriculum standards.
Use strong subject knowledge and effective pedagogy to inspire and challenge students in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology concepts.
Adapt lessons to meet the needs of Students of Determination, ELL learners, and students with diverse abilities.
Employ a variety of teaching strategies, including experiments, ICT, project-based learning, and inquiry-led activities to enhance understanding.
Foster independent, confident, and lifelong learners with strong scientific literacy and critical thinking skills.
Model best practice in academic integrity, investigative thinking, and creativity.
Assessment, Recording, and Reporting
Assess and record student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
Support students in setting and achieving personal learning targets.
Produce reports and maintain accurate records of academic, social, and emotional development.
Communicate effectively with parents regarding students’ progress, achievements, and next steps.
Pastoral and Behaviour Responsibilities
Establish and maintain clear, consistent expectations for behaviour aligned with school policies and values.
Promote respect, empathy, and inclusion within the classroom and wider school community.
Take proactive measures to safeguard students from abuse, bullying, or discrimination.
Support students’ personal development and wellbeing through mentoring and guidance.
Curriculum Development
Prepare schemes of work and lesson plans aligned with UK and UAE MoE curriculum standards.
Contribute to the development of teaching resources, assessment methods, and enrichment activities.
Embed UAE heritage, culture, and values across the science curriculum.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure cohesive, high-quality provision across subjects.
Professional Development and Contribution
Engage in continuous professional development and reflect on teaching practice.
Actively participate in departmental and whole-school meetings and initiatives.
Support school events, after-school activities, and community engagement.
Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity at all times.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
Essential:
Relevant teaching qualification in Science (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent)
Minimum of two years’ teaching experience in secondary science
Strong understanding of assessment, differentiation, and inclusion
Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and wellbeing requirements
Desirable:
Experience teaching in UAE or international schools
Familiarity with KHDA inspection standards and UAE MoE secondary science curriculum
