Insurity’s Next Senior DevOps / Release Engineer
The Senior DevOps / Release Engineer handles all aspects of software build and deployment from development to production. He is responsible for strengthening platform engineering, build, deployment, release, and operational reliability practices across software delivery teams. This role focuses on automation, release quality, environment consistency, developer enablement, observability, and production reliability while helping engineering teams improve delivery speed and stability. The ideal candidate combines deep DevOps, platform engineering, release engineering, and site reliability fundamentals with practical experience using AI-assisted tools to accelerate troubleshooting, documentation, delivery analysis, and operational efficiency.
What Our Senior DevOps / Release Engineer Will Do
Configuration
- Ability to configure assigned Insurity applications
- Able to troubleshoot most configuration issues without assistance
- Ability to isolate issues, communicate with developers to understand and resolve tough issues
- Can communicate with production teams (Cloud, Customer) to clearly and quickly resolve production issues
- Has a good understanding of commonly used product configuration
- Ability to dive deeper into configuration of supporting tools / frameworks to handle new scenarios
Build / Deployment
- Understands the software build and packaging process, makes small modifications as necessary
- Understands the deployment process
- Can build major versions and service packs
- Modify the deployment scripts / process as needed
- Safekeep software release versions and packages
- Able to modify most parts of the build and deployment system
- Extend build system and deployment scripts as needed
- Source-control system administrator
- Able to open-source code to follow program flow to troubleshoot issues using a stack trace
- Able to trace requests through the different components and tiers to troubleshoot and accurately diagnose scenarios
Administration
- Understands the major components of the system and their purpose
- Can quickly narrow down point(s) of failure by their symptoms and can offer recommendations to resolve
- Understands windows components, their purpose and basic knowledge of their features and how to use them
- Has a grasp of certificates, their purposes and how to apply them
- Can set up new servers, install features, roles, products (i.e., SQL Server, SSRS) TFS, Timesheet etc.
- Has a solid understanding and experience with Windows components, networking, and administration
- Experience with multiple monitoring software techniques
Scripting / Languages
- Knowledge of scripting languages and is able to apply them
- Writes accurate, concise, and clearly formatted scripts that can be reused and read by others
- Advanced knowledge of modifying files, system features and roles using PowerShell
- Proficient in other programming languages such as C# or SQL
- Able to build DevOps tools with programming language, e.g., .NET Framework
Planning
- Estimate, plan, and coordinate system upgrades
- Estimate, plan, and execute tools / script / process upgrades
Communication
- Comfortable and proficient in communicating critical system information to other areas of the business (i.e., Senior Leadership)
- Coordinates tasks and provides statuses to other teams during DevOps activities such as deployments
Who We’re Looking For
- 4 years’ experience
- Bachelor’s degree in related field (equivalent work experience may be considered)
- Strong hands-on experience designing, implementing, operating, and improving CI/CD pipelines, build automation, artifact management, source-control workflows, and deployment automation
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform, Docker, Kubernetes, orchestration, GitOps, and cloud-native delivery practices
- Proficiency in Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell, or a comparable automation or systems-programming language
- Experience with infrastructure as code and configuration management using Terraform, OpenTofu, Ansible, or equivalent tools
- Experience with CI/CD and GitOps platforms such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Argo CD, Flux, or equivalent technologies
- Ability to own release readiness, release coordination, versioning, environment promotion, rollback planning, production validation, and post-release health assessment
- Strong understanding of monitoring, alerting, logs, metrics, distributed tracing, release telemetry, automated health checks, and operational dashboards using tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalents
- Experience defining service-level indicators, service-level objectives, error budgets, reliability reporting, and metrics to drive delivery and operational improvements
- Ability to build reusable pipelines, deployment patterns, templates, golden paths, service templates, and self-service capabilities that improve developer experience and reduce operational toil
- Experience with DevSecOps and software supply-chain controls, including secrets management, vulnerability scanning, dependency controls, software bills of materials, artifact signing, integrity verification, workload identity, and policy-as-code
- Experience with feature flags, blue-green deployments, canary releases, progressive delivery, automated rollback, disaster recovery, and Kubernetes security is preferred
- Strong understanding of production operations, incident response, incident command, root-cause analysis, operational readiness reviews, and blameless post-incident retrospectives
- Practical experience using AI-assisted or agentic tools for incident triage, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, automation, reporting, documentation, or workflow improvement, with human validation before production action
- Experience supporting enterprise software products, cloud platforms, or multi-team engineering environments
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively with engineering, QA, security, cloud, and platform teams
- Ability to collaborate across globally distributed teams, including planned working-time overlap with North American stakeholders
