ROLE SUMMARY:

The Secondary School Dance Teacher (Years 10-12) is responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality Dance education to students with a particular focus on the HSC Dance curriculum. 
 
Working on a Wednesday-only basis during Term 4, the role supports students in developing their technical skills, creativity, performance abilities, and theoretical understanding of dance. The successful candidate will foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, guide students in preparation for assessments and performances, and contribute to the ongoing success of the school's Performing Arts programme through inspiring and student-centred teaching.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and deliver dynamic and inclusive dance lessons in accordance with the school’s curriculum and educational standards.
  • Focus on teaching a range of dance techniques, including contemporary dance, to develop students’ technical and expressive abilities.
  • Inspire student creativity, self-expression, and collaboration through choreography, improvisation, and performance.
  • Organise and direct student participation in dance performances, competitions, and school events, ensuring high-quality production and performance standards.
  • Develop and implement assessment strategies that help students improve their technique, performance, and understanding of dance.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive environment, encouraging participation from all students regardless of their experience or skill level.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to integrate dance into interdisciplinary projects and the broader arts curriculum.
  • Identify and nurture student talent, offering guidance to students interested in further study or careers in the performing arts.
  • Stay updated on developments in dance education and ensure the dance program reflects current practice and theory.
  • Participate in school events, professional development opportunities, and faculty meetings as required.
  • Coordinate the co-curricular dance program and manage extracurricular activities related to dance.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Proven Year 11 and Year 12 dance teaching experience with expertise in contemporary dance, choreography, and performance.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including mentoring staff and leading a department to achieve strategic goals.
  • Experience planning, organising, and directing dance performances that support student growth and achievement.Strong classroom management, organisational, and student engagement skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, working effectively with students, staff, and the wider school community.
  • Skilled in assessing, monitoring, and reporting on student progress.
  • Experience managing budgets, resources, and departmental operations effectively.
  • Passionate, creative, and collaborative educator committed to inspiring students, fostering confidence, and contributing to a positive performing arts programme.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Performing Arts, Education, or a related field, with a focus on contemporary dance or similar techniques.
  • Teaching qualification and registration with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
  • Experience teaching dance, including choreography and performance.
  • Valid Working with Children Check.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to participate in extracurricular activities, including performances and events, which may occasionally require evening or weekend commitments.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with trends and practices in dance education.
