About the Role
 
Infrastructure Engineering, Inc (IEI) New York Office is looking for an experienced Assistant Resident Engineer to join our Team working with The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at JFK Airport! We are a multi-disciplinary Prime consulting firm that focuses on the delivery of design engineering, program management, construction engineering and inspection services. IEI cultivates various types of engineering projects from conception and planning through implementation. Essential Duties/Functions and Responsibilities:  
* Assist in coordinating with JFK Airport Facility, operations personnel, and other stakeholders to ensure work progresses efficiently while minimizing impacts to airport operations.   
Assists in reviewing submittals or forwards to design staff for technical review
Prepare a transmittal letter either accepting or rejecting the contractor’s submittals
Assists in ensuring the preparation of accurate and complete work products by monitoring schedules, change orders and weekly reports; identifies and implements ideas that save the client money or effectively solve potential problems; reviews interim work products; provides feedback and coordinate sub consultants
Supervise and mentor field staff, ensuring they effectively monitor construction activities, verify proper installation of work, and maintain accurate and complete project documentation.
Assists in reviewing project plans, specifications and addenda as well as ongoing and upcoming field construction activities
Assists in maintaining progress of construction and communication with designated point of contact
Review and approve daily field inspection reports and narratives to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Track classified work items, time-and-material (T&M) tickets, and other project records to maintain proper documentation and accountability.
Prepare Extra Work Order, Net Cost Change Order, Field Ordered Work, and associated cost estimates.
Maintains a variety of logs and records related to employees, work assignment and inspection activities
Review contractor payment applications for accuracy and contract compliance, assist the Resident Engineer in preparing monthly reports on project progress and financial status, and proactively identify and elevate potential risks or issues.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering from an accredited four‐year college or university or approved equivalent.
Possess a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
Ability to support non-standard work hours, including potential night and weekend shifts, and accommodate extended work hours as project needs require.
Active registered Professional Engineer license preferred
ACI Concrete Special Inspector, Structural steel bolting inspector: and Work Zone Safety Certifications preferred.
Must possess all agency required certifications and security clearances.
 
Knowledge and Skills:
OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification required, with training in fall protection, Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT), confined space entry, and permit-required confined space entry.
Proficiency with eBuilder and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Working Conditions:
Valid Driver’s License required.
Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. 
Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
Sometimes needs to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
Usually works in outside weather conditions.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
