Software Engineering Manager (NET) C#

Abingdon, UK · Hybrid£70k – £90k

About this role

Software Engineering Manager (.NET / C#)

Abingdon, Oxfordshire | £75,000 - £90,000 + Equity + Private Healthcare + Hybrid Working

Want to lead the team building software that enables the next generation of semiconductor manufacturing?

I'm partnering with one of Oxfordshire's most exciting deep-tech businesses to find a Software Engineering Manager who enjoys balancing technical leadership with people development.

This is not a role where you'll spend your time in meetings, far removed from engineering. You'll remain close to the technology, influence architectural decisions and help shape how a growing software team delivers products that are used by some of the world's most advanced semiconductor companies.

You'll join Infinitesima, a venture-backed technology business developing market-leading metrology solutions that enable chip manufacturers to push the limits of semiconductor performance.

If you're an experienced Engineering Manager, Software Development Manager or Technical Team Lead with a strong C# background and a passion for building high-performing teams, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Salary benchmarked against comparable engineering management roles across Oxfordshire's scientific, semiconductor and advanced technology sectors
  • £75,000 - £90,000 base salary depending on experience
  • EMI share option scheme
  • Private healthcare
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Death in service cover
  • Pension contribution with salary sacrifice
  • Flexible hybrid working following onboarding and probation

What You'll Be Doing

You'll take ownership of a talented software engineering team, ensuring projects are delivered effectively while creating an environment where engineers can do their best work.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Leading sprint planning, estimation and delivery activities
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing software engineers at different career stages
  • Running performance and development conversations focused on growth and engagement
  • Supporting recruitment and scaling of the software engineering team
  • Collaborating with Systems, Data Analysis and LabVIEW teams to manage dependencies across complex product development programmes
  • Communicating delivery plans, risks and progress to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Reviewing architecture, code quality and engineering practices to maintain high standards
  • Contributing technically where required, remaining close to the codebase and architectural direction
  • Helping drive the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices while maintaining accountability for software quality, security and maintainability

At Infinitesima, AI supports engineers rather than replaces them. The team uses modern agentic development tools, but engineers retain ownership of every design decision and every line of code released to customers.

What We're Looking For

You'll likely bring:

  • Commercial experience developing software in C# and .NET
  • Previous people management, team leadership or engineering management experience
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns and scalable application development
  • Experience working with WPF or similar desktop UI technologies
  • Ability to define delivery plans, manage dependencies and communicate progress effectively
  • Experience working within Agile or iterative development environments
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience overseeing software delivery from concept through release

Particularly Attractive Experience

Any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Semiconductor, scientific instrumentation or precision engineering environments
  • Working in multidisciplinary teams that include software, hardware and systems engineering
  • LabVIEW integration
  • Data acquisition or real-time systems
  • TCP/IP communications and low-level interfaces
  • Python development
  • Jira administration, delivery planning or programme management exposure
  • Safety-critical or regulated product environments

Company at a glance

Infinitesima was spun out of the University of Bristol in 2001 and has been developing innovative metrology solutions which improve speed and precision in the manufacture of semiconductors. The company’s technology combines the 3-dimensional surface detection capability of atomic force microscopy (AFM), with high-speed laser activation and the accuracy of interferometry. The Rapid Probe Microscope (RPM™) is protected by an extensive patent portfolio. The company’s RPM™ technology is being used by leading semiconductor equipment companies globally. Semiconductor devices provide the foundations on which progress in the technology sector are enabled. From Smartphones to Artificial Intelligence, 5G communications to autonomous vehicles, all are made possible through advances in semiconductor processes. Scaling these processes requires sub-nanometer measurement of increasingly complex 3D structures to enable more powerful devices.
