What you'll be doing

  • Manufacture and test complex sub-assemblies involving optical, cabling, and electro-mechanical technologies, ensuring compliance with quality and performance standards.
  • Identify, document, and escalate manufacturing issues—including defects, downtime, and abnormalities—using factual information, while collaborating with cross-functional support teams to drive timely and effective resolution.
  • Working as a manufacturing team in maintaining and continuously improving manufacturing processes to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Ensuring assemblies are delivered to quality, cost and schedule requirements
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness across production and cleanroom environments.
  • Liaise with Stock Operatives to ensure assembly kits are complete & accurate.
  • Contributing to a safe, organised and high-performing manufacturing environment

What we're looking for

You'll ideally come from semiconductor equipment, photonics, scientific instrumentation, aerospace, medical devices or another high-tech manufacturing environment.

We'd particularly like to hear from people with experience of:

  • Building and testing complex, high-value technology products
  • Electro-mechanical assembly and system integration
  • Root cause analysis and structured problem solving
  • Manufacturing practice, quality standards and root-cause basics
  • Reading and following technical documentation and build procedures
  • Working with precision mechanical and electronic components
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship

Nice to have

  • Semiconductor equipment or semiconductor manufacturing experience
  • Cleanroom working experience
  • Wiring and soldering to IPC standards
  • Experience working with complex photonics or metrology equipment, such as optical systems, lasers, fibre optics, and precision instrumentation.
  • Manufacturing engineering or process improvement exposure

Qualifications

A HND, degree, apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on experience in engineering, manufacturing, electronics, photonics or a related discipline.

Company at a glance

Infinitesima was spun out of the University of Bristol in 2001 and has been developing innovative metrology solutions which improve speed and precision in the manufacture of semiconductors. The company’s technology combines the 3-dimensional surface detection capability of atomic force microscopy (AFM), with high-speed laser activation and the accuracy of interferometry. The Rapid Probe Microscope (RPM™) is protected by an extensive patent portfolio. The company’s RPM™ technology is being used by leading semiconductor equipment companies globally. Semiconductor devices provide the foundations on which progress in the technology sector are enabled. From Smartphones to Artificial Intelligence, 5G communications to autonomous vehicles, all are made possible through advances in semiconductor processes. Scaling these processes requires sub-nanometer measurement of increasingly complex 3D structures to enable more powerful devices.
Based in Abingdon, UK, we are a high calibre team of 80 people and continue to grow. We are backed by global financial and industry investors including Applied Ventures, the strategic venture arm of the industry leading equipment company.
