Job Summary

D.C. Goodman & Sons is seeking a Sprinkler Estimator to price fire protection systems on our commercial and institutional projects. This is a specialized, code-driven role focused exclusively on fire protection scope — sprinkler, standpipe, and fire pump systems — for clients like hospitals, colleges, and industrial facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review drawings and specs to perform takeoffs for sprinkler, standpipe, and fire pump systems
  • Ensure bids account for code-required system components (sprinkler density/coverage, pipe sizing, fire-rated assemblies, etc.)
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor/supplier pricing on fire protection materials and equipment
  • Build complete bid packages, including labor hours, material costs, overhead, and margin
  • Coordinate with the business development team on incoming leads and bid deadlines
  • Clarify scope questions with GCs/clients and adjust pricing as needed during the bid process
  • Hand off awarded jobs to project managers/foremen with clear scope, budget, and code requirements
  • Track win/loss rates and refine estimating accuracy over time

Qualifications

Preferred:

  • 5-10+ years of estimating experience, with meaningful time in fire protection/sprinkler estimating specifically
  • Solid knowledge of fire protection codes and standards (NFPA 13, 14, 20) and how local/PA fire code and AHJ requirements affect design and pricing
  • Ability to read and take off sprinkler layouts and piping isometrics
  • Proficiency with estimating/takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam plus a piping/mechanical estimating platform)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Relationships with fire protection equipment/material suppliers
  • OSHA 10 certification
