Position Summary:

The Part-Time Guest Services Assistant is a member of the Blair School of Music Presenting Services team at Vanderbilt University and serves as a key individual contributor supporting front-of-house operations and guest services. This position serves as the face of the organization by creating a welcoming environment for patrons, providing exceptional customer service, and contributing to the successful execution of performances and special events.

 

This position is a Vanderbilt “Flex” position that will offer work on a flexible scheduling basis, as needed, and is not eligible for benefits.

 

About the Work Unit:

Situated on Vanderbilt Campus in the heart of Nashville, TN, the Blair School of Music is a vibrant and fast-paced school at Vanderbilt University, focused on the personal and professional education of highly talented young musicians who demonstrate exceptional artistic capacity and a motivation to help shape the world through music. The school has approximately 115 full and part-time faculty members and industry professionals who teach an estimated 260 music majors, 65 music minors and second majors, and 800 Blair Academy students (comprised of pre-college and adult students) https://blair.vanderbilt.edu/

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

Oversees front-of-house event operations, including preparing performance spaces, conducting pre-event staff briefings, assigning event staff responsibilities, monitoring event activities, documenting event outcomes, ensuring staff are properly released at the conclusion of events, and securing venue spaces.

Assists with venue operations by supporting event setup and teardown, monitoring lobby and audience areas during events, maintaining the appearance and readiness of public spaces, and performing related operational duties as assigned.

Collaborates with front-of-house staff, event clients, security personnel, and venue management to ensure seamless event execution, effective communication, and a positive guest experience.

Ensures accessibility and inclusive guest experience by providing assistance and accommodations to patrons with disabilities in accordance with venue policies and applicable accessibility standards.

Provides usher and guest services by greeting patrons, verifying event admission, directing guests to seating, managing audience flow, and ensuring compliance with venue policies and safety procedures.

Provides exceptional customer service by serving as a knowledgeable point of contact for patrons, responding to questions, resolving concerns, and addressing guest issues in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.

 

Supervisory Relationships:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility; this position reports administratively and functionally to the Operations Assistant.

 

Education and Certifications:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. 

 

Experience and Skills:

Previous experience in customer service or hospitality is required.

Strong customer service orientation is required.

Dependability and punctuality are required.

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed is required.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills are required.

Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment is required.

Basic math and computer skills are required.

Our Interdisciplinary Materials Science (IMS) program offers a unique multidisciplinary experience where students design their own curriculum, and collaborate with faculty and students from engineering, chemistry, physics, and medicine, who are working on some the biggest of society's challenges.
