Let’s Talk about the Role

As part of the Global Apparel Product Creation team at icebreaker, the Senior Designer, Global Apparel will conceptualise, design and deliver creative projects that support the global business needs. This role focuses on men’s and women’s outdoor lifestyle apparel and requires a balance of creativity, commercial awareness and practical execution.

Core Responsibilities

  • Create apparel that meets expectations for design quality, value and cost.

  • Lead the design of outdoor lifestyle apparel using natural fibres across a broad range of categories, from knits to wovens.

  • Develop styles that respond to relevant trends and consumer needs while staying true to the icebreaker brand.

  • Ensure designs are practical, commercially viable and aligned with business needs.

  • Work closely with cross functional team members in Product Development and Merchandising to deliver the right product execution for the target consumer.

  • Partner with Merchandising and Marketing teams on special projects, including brand collaborations.

  • Support the Design team in overseeing external resources and related administration, including the processing of invoices.

How You Will Make a Difference

In this role, you will shape icebreaker outdoor lifestyle apparel that connects creativity, natural performance and commercial relevance. You will bring ideas to life from early concept through to final product, working closely with Design, Merchandising and Development partners to create meaningful products for our consumer.

  • Shape the creative direction: Collaborate with the Director, Global Product and Senior Manager, Global Design to build seasonal stories across colour, graphics, materials and new style direction, informed by consumer insight, market research and the icebreaker brand vision.

  • Own the product journey: Lead your design process from concept to final product, championing purpose, clarity and intent in every design decision.

  • Push product innovation: Explore fresh, authentic ideas and solutions, including technologies, construction techniques, features that push the product and consumer experience forward.

  • Collaboration: Partner with Product, Merchandising, Development, vendors and cross-functional teams to resolve fit, style and construction challenges and ensure products are commercially ready.

  • Elevate the team: Bring curiosity, craft and product passion to the wider design community, sharing knowledge, supporting onboarding and helping build creative capability across the organisation.

Skills for Success

You should be collaborative, flexible, positive and a problem solver, with:

  • Advanced knowledge of garment construction, pattern cutting and product execution, with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks, stay organised and adapt quickly in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • Strong cross-functional collaborator who can support project management, product development and solution-finding with the consumer at the centre.

  • Clear communication and strong presentation skills with the ability to keep teams aligned throughout the design and development process.

  • A proactive and solution-oriented approach to identify challenges and help move work forward effectively.

Education & Experience

A University Bachelor or Master’s degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design or equivalent combination of education and experience a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in sustainable product design or project management are advantageous.

High level of computer literacy is essential; proficient in Microsoft Office and a confident user of Adobe Creative Suite and 3D product creation software such as Browzwear or CLO.

8+ years of experience Product Design roles within the apparel industry. Experience in the fashion lifestyle or outdoor apparel sector is highly preferred.
