Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking an innovative individual for the position of Physiotherapist to provide specialized assessment, treatment, and intervention for older adults with multiple complex health needs and provide resources for professionals and caregivers in Northern Ontario. The ideal candidate will have a Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (CPO) and successful completion of the Geriatric Assessor training course, Core Indigenous Cultural Competency Training Program, and the P.I.E.C.E.S. Training program are required. We are looking for someone with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience working within Specialized Geriatric Services and completing assessment and treatment guided by the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The goal of the Regional Outpatient Geriatric Medicine Service is to reduce the burden of disability of older adults by detecting and treating reversible conditions, providing optimal patient-centred care, and managing co-existing chronic conditions. Every patient referred will receive a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) completed by a geriatric assessor (GA) and the geriatrician/care of the elderly physician (COE). The CGA guides a multidimensional specialized geriatric team approach that determines a frail older adult’s biomedical, psychosocial, functional, and environmental needs. The team initiates an appropriate treatment and follow-up plan developed with the patient/family/care partner in partnership with primary care, NELHIN Home and Community Care as well as other care partners along the continuum of care.

As of January 2026, Expansion of “As of Right” legislation allows more regulated health professionals moving to Ontario from another province to practice right away while they await registration with the regulatory body in Ontario. More information can be found here. Visit the applicable Ontario Health Regulatory College to verify eligibility requirements.
