About this role

Health and Safety Responsibility

  • Act as a leader in occupational health and safety by ensuring that employees always practice safe behaviors. 
  • Ensure that policies and instructions are strictly followed by all unionized employees. 
  • Ensure that health and safety training is provided to all employees under their responsibility.
  • Train employees in safe work procedures and enforce safety rules. 
  • Ensure that health and safety deficiencies are properly identified, communicated and that follow-ups are carried out according to an acceptable schedule and management standards. 
  • Report all incidents and near-misses to management as soon as possible. 
  • Participate in the investigation following a near miss as soon as possible. 
  • Conduct daily safety audits and inspections. 
  • Be a key player in the development of the OHS culture within Glopak. 
  • Lead and participate in the Gemba Walk for OSH

Production management, quality and processes

  • Plan daily production activities to execute work orders based on production planning. 
  • Analyze performance indicators (KPIs) on a daily basis and act with their team to maintain and improve them. 
  • Receive and use all reports related to the functions of each department. 
  • Provide additional information to reports to assist managers in each department 
  • Communicate, manage and control productivity at an acceptable margin to meet objectives. 
  • Organize the presence of consumables and tools.
  • Monitor quality controls to ensure that all products meet or exceed customer requirements. 
  • Ensure that there is a clear understanding and appreciation of teamwork to achieve the company's quality goals.
  • Actively participate in quality meetings and corrective actions taken to prevent recurring quality problems. 
  • Control and monitor losses, whether material or time. 
  • Take corrective action to eliminate all excess scrap in operations. 

Human resources management

  • To ensure a good working atmosphere free of violence and harassment of any kind.
  • Participate in the management of employee training including task training, onboarding training, etc. 
  • Be responsible for the training and evaluation of new recruits and existing staff who acquire new positions. 
  • Act as a facilitator in the event of conflicts between employees or any issues affecting employees. 
  • Participate in quarterly employee meetings.
  • Be an active member of the Labor Relations Committee and the Health and Safety Committee. 
  • Establish and maintain a relationship of trust and maintain excellent communication with local managers.
  • Ensure a communication link between unionized employees and management. 
  • Manage their team's vacation schedule in accordance with the collective agreement. 
  • Assign personnel to machinery or equipment according to the production schedule and in accordance with the collective agreement. 
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of attendance, discipline and vacation. 

Other tasks 

  • Comply with and maintain SQF and HACCP standards of their department's daily operations. 
  • Support the organization to maintain our SQF structure and FDA certification.
  • Participate in conferences, training or other activities to increase their knowledge and skills in this position, at the request or with the agreement of his/her supervisor. 
  • Other related duties as assigned.
