About this role

Overview

The Drafter is responsible for drafting and detailing, Bills of Materials (BOM), using AutoCAD and generating 2-D above-ground storage tank drawings for the Services Engineering group. Working under the direction of the Project Lead, the Drafter learns and applies HMT company standards, develops proficiency with industry codes and drafting tools, and progressively takes on greater independence in producing accurate, complete, and code-compliant drawings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepares customer, fabrication, and erection drawings of above-ground storage tank products and assemblies using AutoCAD in accordance with company standards, notes, sketches, and instructions.
  • Inputs information into tank data sheets to generate AutoCAD drawings and BOM; checks and verifies data for correctness against the scope of work.
  • Revises and back-checks redline drawings for customer submittal, fabrication, and erection as directed by the Project Lead or Engineer.
  • Prepares detailed drawings from general design drawings, clearly indicating materials, tolerances, and other information necessary for completeness and accuracy.
  • Applies industry and company standards — including API codes, design codes, building codes, and standard part drawings — in the preparation and review of drawings, details, and diagrams.
  • Reviews engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established standards and company practices.
  • Performs basic and advanced math, trigonometry, and geometry functions to solve problems and improve detail drawings.
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard details using experience and knowledge of industry practice for non-routine drafting challenges.
  • Works on small projects independently or assists on larger projects; adapts methods for non-routine aspects using developing judgment.
  • Develops and maintains proficiency in the (EMP) Engineering Manufacturing Production system to support the Project Lead.
  • Supports drawing quality by producing error-free drawings and BOM that meet project specifications.
  • Assists and instructs less experienced drafters as required.
  • Meets scheduled delivery dates as supplied by the Project Lead; communicates proactively on schedule concerns.
  • Interacts professionally with engineering and Project Lead staff; maintains appropriate client contact as directed.


Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Drafting or Technology preferred.
  • AutoCAD certification or demonstrated proficiency required.

Experience

0–3 years of experience in the tank or a related industry. Applicant should be familiar with AutoCAD drafting functions and commands. No prior tank-specific experience is required; on-the-job training is provided.
