About this role
Basic Function
Job Duties
- Ensures compliance with federal and state environmental regulations and permits for solid waste, hazardous waste/materials, wastewater, stormwater and drinking water systems/operations, and SPCC
- Oversees SPCC/SWPPP programs and ensuring they are implemented and executed appropriately
- Interfaces with operation departments to communicate and define their role in compliance efforts
- May interface with regulatory agencies to ensure the understanding of, and compliance with, all applicable environmental regulations and requirements
- May monitor and coordinate the testing and reporting, packaging, transport and disposal of hazardous materials/waste and non-hazardous wastes in compliance with regulations
- May monitor and coordinate the testing and reporting of wastewater, storm water, and hydro test water in compliance with regulations and permits
- May prepare reports with respect to EPCRA, CERCLA and TSCA
- May assist in preparing permit applications and work with POTW on non-compliance discharges
- May assist with the technical oversight on groundwater and soil contamination issues
- May oversee budgeting costs associated with environmental compliance and contractor/consultant work products
- Participates in third party compliance audits of Company facilities
- Assists and coordinates the implementation of company’s Operational Excellence Management System
- May assist in annual ESG reporting
- Ensures environmental considerations are factored into planning and the capital budget process
- Represents the company to governmental environmental agencies, the public, and trade/professional associations and interfaces with regulatory agencies to ensure understanding of, and compliance with, all applicable environmental regulations and requirements
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Education Level
Required Skills
Ability to lead and train a small group of employees in a Technical Expert capacity. Strong communication skills and good technical writing skills. Working knowledge of environmental regulations required. Understanding of oil refining processes (process flow diagrams/mechanical flow sheets, chemical phase separations, and reactions). Ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations and to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication. Knowledge of laws, pronouncements and regulations pertaining to environmental operations at refining and midstream operations. Excellent planning, organizational, time management and analytical skills; and ability to present publicly. Ability to provide analyses of proposed and final regulations that impact operations and/or compliance status. General knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations, and their interface with environmental tasks. Advanced reading, writing and computer skills.
Preferred Skills:
Special training in RCRA, SPCC, EPCRA, OPA, and Wastewater/stormwater compliance, and a Certification in DOT transportation is preferred.

Today, HF Sinclair
