Distributed Controls Systems Monitoring Analyst

Basic Function
The Distributed Control System (DCS) Monitoring Specialist delivers advanced, fleet‑wide oversight of control system performance across all HF Sinclair facilities. The role applies specialized tools and deep expertise in DCS health and system reliability to identify emerging issues, evaluate enterprise‑level operational and technical challenges, and drive consistent adoption of best practices that strengthen DCS stability. Reporting to the Control Systems Automation Lead, this position works closely with OT system teams to lead and support monitoring initiatives, coordinate proactive response strategies, and improve availability, performance, and reliability metrics across the fleet. The expected outcomes include earlier detection of degradation, uniform application of standards, and measurable reliability improvements at the enterprise level.
Job Duties
- Support and administer Microsoft and Linux servers, data protection, and application servers.
- Design and support of server monitoring and patching infrastructure.
- Manage the server security patching and alerting process for the server infrastructure. Participate in server patching in line with security standards, application standards and business practices.
- Supports the server infrastructure based on business needs and requirements.
- Proactive administration and daily operation for server patching and alerting operations.
- Working with Information Security Evaluate and review current releases of OS patches before and after installation in the environment.
- Participate in server security hardening for Microsoft Windows and Linux servers (minor).
- Installs, supports, and administers software and/or custom applications as required, resolving issues at all levels and updating patches.
- Coordinate with customers and stakeholders to collect data, conduct analysis, develop solutions, and implement monitoring strategies based on existing incident tickets or customer requirements.
- Troubleshoots, monitors, and researches solutions to aid peers in operation efficiencies using industry-standard toolsets and custom-coded solutions.
- Provide follow-up reports (technical findings, feedback, resolution steps taken) for root cause analysis, engineering technical assessment, and process improvement initiatives.
- Provides telephone, e-mail, and after-hours support to all sites using various tools.
- Develops and maintains clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation for the application and supporting infrastructure environment, including detailed design documents, and builds procedures, training, and technical support guidelines.
- The ability to work in an office setting.
Experience
Education Level
- Experience in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity.
- Experience administering IIS server, Tomcat and Apache.
- Additional support experience troubleshooting TCP/IP, WINS, DHCP, SMTP, DNS and anti-virus is preferred.
- Experience with Program Management and methodologies.
- Experience with merger and acquisition infrastructure activities.
Required Skills
- Proficient in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
- Knowledge in patching using Bigfix, Tanium, SCCM, WSUS or other technologies on Windows and non-Windows-based systems.
- Knowledge and experience in managing alerting platforms such as SCOM, Nagios, ManageEngine, SolarWinds or other like platforms.
- Configuring and supporting Server infrastructure including Windows and non-Windows based systems.
- Experience in managing Active Directory, GPO, File Server, DHCP and DNS roles.
- Experience with security best practices, server hardening.
- Experience in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity.
- Experience administering IIS server, Tomcat and Apache.
- Additional support experience troubleshooting TCP/IP, WINS, DHCP, SMTP, DNS and anti-virus is preferred.
- Experience with Program Management and methodologies.
